It's interesting what you (and presumably other homoeopathists) consider to be "cures".

I'm not closing this thread since you guys are having fun, however obviously we have to identify that Dr. Nancy Malik causes a Woo-Woo Alert. (incidentally if every Woo-woo was cut out from posting their crack, there would be nothing left for anyone to rebute.)

Maybe if the woo woos left we'd simply move on to rebut bad spelling

I find this disturbing in the least, and utterly dangerous at worst... to promote remedies that physically do not work in any way other than in promoting hope.

While the remedies they, and Homeopaths in general, promote are ultimately as harmless as the solution in which the "active ingredient" is diluted, there is the very real risk that people will genuinely feel they can rely on such, to the expense of actual curative medicine - and at the ultimate expense of their lives.

Again, I wouldn't confuse natural remedies with homeopathy: natural remedies are the basis of much of modern medicine - taking what works from nature and manufacturing it artificially.

But homeopathy is placebo at best - and to push it as anything more should be seen as dangerous!

I knew there must be some reason why Sciforums is a haven for woo-woos and why they are coddled.

From my understanding, it is used on symptoms. Symptoms like pain relief and some other relatively minor secondary effect of illness.

We are back to the demand for evidence.

    The count stands at 1

I notice that Malik has skipped over the leprosy issue. That is a disease where she professes to live. The only reason that leprosy is becoming less common in India is due to the use of conventional medicines. Important advances in the treatment of leprosy were developed researched and shown to be effective by conventional doctors from India.

    This just reinforces my point.
Worried Well. (Perhaps this is what you meant.I'm not sure where you are coming from)
When they have cancer, they go to the doctor, same as you and me.

When they have a mild headache after drinking Lapsang Souchong tea rather than Earl Grey, it's time for the Homeopathist.

Captain Kremmen that's a wonderful list isn't it of celebrities provided by Malik. It's meaningless poppycock on a science forum. Nice post about the tea. Like it.

Anything favoured by Jerry Hall, Vidal Sassoon and Katherine Zeta Jones is to be treated with suspicion. Anything approved by Tony Blair is to be avoided at all costs.

    Rosie O'Donnell is against vaccinations.
    Martin Sheen is into CTs.
Jackson Pollock killed himself by driving drunk.
WC Fields said, "Water, never drink the stuff. Fish f--- in it"
Diane von Furstenberg is a fashion designer. Had to look up that name.
Jerry Hall studied Kabbalah and is the spokesperson for Levitra. Doesn't sound homeopathic to me.

Frankly, we might wonder if the people named here approve of their names being used to endorse something without receiving a payment.

Till the age of 14, I only took homeopathic medicines bcoz my parents took me to a homeo doctor. Obviously placebo effect wont cure sickness in a 2 year old kid. I had no idea it was considered as some pseudoscience and that age it worked perfectly and maintained me healthy till the age of 28. I never had a fever nor cold nor any of those common diseases and I was perfectly healthy. It even cured my jaundice at the age of 10. Fast forward to 2008. I fell sick for the first time in years and had to see a normal doctor since the homeo doctor who treated me all these years died in 2007. Now am a regular sick person with something or the other bothering my daily life and i am dependent on tablets.

I understand that medicine is business and it controls the economy to some great extend. But then is it worth making a fool out of yourselves by convincing yourselves that homeopathy is pseudoscience????

Left to itself a cold will go away in a week, but with proper medical attention (homeopathic or conventional) you can get rid of it in seven days.

You never had a fever or a cold as a child?
    Never????
    Are you sure about that?

I doubt that any of the celebrities, or their homeopathic doctors would claim that.
    You are a medical marvel.

One of the problems that has been discussed here with monotonous regularity is the need for double blinded studies. Science learn years ago that it is important to avoid case studies. What you have presented here is a case study.

We know that people are different. Let's assume you were healthy in early years. It happens. There is no evidence here that you would or would not have been marvelously healthy regardless of environment and treatment. Now you are less healthy. There is no evidence that this would have been different under different circumstances.

Due to the great variation in people it is important to do a test on a large number of people. Don't let the subjects of the experiment or the people administering the experiment know what is happening. Decisions are made by the observer without knowledge of what is being administered. At the end, after the results are decided, unlock the code and see how the experiment turned out.

My discussions with Malik have been over the fact that the studies either saw no difference (no statistically significant difference), or the people in the experiment knew what was happening.

Think of it this way, ever seen a sporting match where you think the ref favored one team over another? You try to avoid that problem. When you do homeopathy looks no different than doing nothing. At least that is what studies show us.

Dr. Nancy, you have been providing us tons of website which promote homeopathy. You haven't shown us a single critical point of it. Even modern medicine accepts its limits and problems. You also haven't come up with anything positive about modern medicine, of which many people all around the world have been benefitted many times, or they know a thing or two about its positive aspects.

When you approach people like you do, showing only one side of both things (homeopathy is always good, used by celebrities and it has many websites; but conventional medicine usually kill people), does it ever occured to you that anyone could suspect from your intention?

Plus look at the irony in the title:

"Why Homeopathy is getting more and more popular?"

In here at least, if you put such a title, it does not make the same effect it may do in magazines. Here one can get an immediate suspect or danger behind of it. "why is it getting popular, what's wrong with people?" But ironic part is not that; irony is you have a social group in this forum which is called "Homeopathy", yet you are the only member of it. Does it tell you something about its popularity, at least in this environment?

People will see you with a purpose of selling some products and will suspect from your homeopathy, if you not stop sending people to some websites and rejecting a whole knowledge accumulation of modern medicine. People studying biology, chemistry, anatomy and using mathematics and scientific methods to come up with an idea in this vast discipline. If you don't show people that you are aware of any of these, don't expect them to follow your religion...
