Ok, so you're a slave to trends. Fair enough. If you had said you started getting turned on every time you passed the butcher shop, it would be interesting.

They are easy to avoid. What's the problem?

You have to buy in to some societal trends, maybe not fashion but what qualifies as a trend can sometimes become a standard for that society. Do you live in a cave?

    Like what, for example?

If you were to say that computers and internet connections were a trend and have become a standard, I might agree with you. What social trend, though?

But, if I simply found that having a computer and internet connection offered me ways to access information and get my opinions out there, am I following a social trend?

Perhaps, you're confusing technological advances with social trending?

i would have to think that, clothing would be one.. shoes... ummm.. that the stuff I can think of that is a social trend...or going to 1 bar because everyone likes it there, or going someplace because people say its great...

Perhaps I am, but before something becomes a standard does it not start out as a trend, even with technology. A trend is simply the direction that a particular thing/things tend to move in. Things become popualr as a result of trends and if you were at any point one of those people who used something or tried something before it became a standard then you bought into a trend.

Have you ever had a latte?
Have you ever went and seen a movie because someone told you it was good?

That definition would cover literally everything. I believe we're talking about trends like tattoos and piercings. being an emo or goth, cutting your hair into a mullet or mohawk, trends like that.

I'm not sure if those qualify?

Perhaps, we need to step back and define these trends.

so you dont go to the mall and buy cloths, or walmart, or kmart, or anything? you make all your cloths by hand?

No, I don't shop at walmart or kmart. I buy quality clothes that fit well, whether it happens to be A&F or Armani. For example, I've owned a set of Armani tortoise shell sunglasses for at least 10 years, they still work and look as good as the day I bought them. It's all about quality, not trends.

And yet Armani in itself is a brand that is popular largely due to fashion trends.hmmmm

No, it's largely popular due to quality. If I shopped entirely at Armani, that might considered trendy.

Hence, buying quality is a social trend? What trend would that be if we compared it to tattoos and piercings trends?

Well I assume that someone who buys tattoos shops for quality as well, but the price of Armani is not solely determined by the quality of product, but by its popularity as well. Just because you don't knowingly buy into a trend doesn't mean your not doing it.

A "quality" tattoo? There's an oxymoron.

I was out buying sunglasses, how is that buying into a trend simply because I found exactly what I was looking for and it happened to be Armani? It could have been any quality brand.

Do you follow brands? Or will you buy off the street as well?

WIll you pay 100 times as much as something is worth, for the designer brand name?

Like, stereo speakers off the back of the truck?

I don't "pay" for designer brand names, I pay for quality. I have yet to find a pair of sunglasses that even comes close to the quality of my Armanis for the same price. I thought mine were relatively inexpensive.

And how do you judge quality? Besides price?
