You know the story is starting to come apart when they start using the "magic bullet" explanation. He emptied out his apartment, gave away things he didn't want to take with him, and told everyone he was deploying today. Does that sound like a man about to go postal?
He was ordered to be deployed to Iraq and he did not like that a bit . How come Bush and Cheney do not go and fight in Iraq ?!!!.:shrug:.
My friend was also deployed to Iraq, but he endured it like a man and didn't murder any of his fellow soldiers (in spite of having autism and schizoaffective disorder, and being a vegan).
A person should have a clear conscience and some values for justice and fairness . I am sure your friend and others who went to Iraq have none of these respected values . Going all the way to Iraq to kill people is just INSANE in my opinion . He is more than justified to fight in his USA though .
Moderator Note: Please be careful, everyone. This issue is under heavy social censorship, just about everywhere. mike47, please be careful about any appearance here of Bravo Zulu for a Terrorist: In other words, do not defend or give the impression of defending the Ft Hood attack as a fair military target by a legitimate combattant. Not right now, because it would quickly capsize this thread. Those who would like the thread to continue long should carefully avoid inflaming flaminess. We'll not make a big deal of anything that might be construed as inflammatory. Certainly no long comments about them. Anymore. Terrorist = Muslim? is a recent spin-off from this thread, possibly worth checking out.
Not a Mod Note: That's fine, then it doesn't matter (it's just stupid, and in need of a separate thread).
I'm interested in hearing a scenario for labelling this attack "terrorism". I'm really flabbergasted that we're forced into these thoughts while the story is still unfolding. What happened at Ft Hood wasn't neat; it didn't involve a lot of planning. Major Hassan had access to do a lot more harm than he did, and he was functional on camera a few hours prior. We have one very quirky shrink, whose condition has nothing to do with the wars. That's what we should reasonably assume. Or not?
He cleaned out his apartment and passed out copies of the Quran to his neighbors. That's pre-meditated.
It's gotta be, if he's one of "Them". 12 kills is not a respectable score for an American Soldier with similarly vulnerable (not to say legitimate) targets. I wish we could just admit that he's crazy, and it's been an unnecessary epidemic lately. This story is just going to suck no matter how it turns out.
That it is but it does not = terrorism the only thing terroristic about this whole thing is that they guy shot people that were unarmed and defenseless against a gun. Why did he not deploy and then shoot a bunch on people the biggest reason he is a coward just like the rest of the face hiding imbeciles that call them selves terrorists.
Well I just cleaned out my sisters apartment and loaned her a copy of my Qur'an What does this portent?
Your disgust at terrorism is registered. I don't agree, however, that all terrorists are cowards who hide their faces. History has suffered many terrorists who were praised as great heros.
Yes. IT sounds exactly like someone preparing to enter the afterlife. Was he going off shooting because he went crazy or out of some twisted devotion to Islam? Who knows. But he knew that some sort of an end was coming. If he was attempting to kill people for the purposes of causing terror (especially for political or religious reasons) then it could well have been terrorism. If he just want batty because of other reasons, then that's another issue. ~String
