No one more than me would like to see that come to fruition, Fraggle R. It does sound like quite a serious undertaking doing a major overhaul.

Could you please outline the steps those who run the website will be taking to achieve those lofty goals?

    What is the timeline?

How will these changes affect the current membership?

What will happen to forums that don't meet the criteria of scholarship; ie. religion, pseudoscience?

    Cheers.

Nothing specific in the near future

No steps, no timeline. In the past, some moderators have expressed concerns about authoritarianism. It's pretty talk, our "Intelligent Community", but it's not going to happen any time soon.

As to the effects on the current membership? No clue. We'll have to see what the future brings.

They will, theoretically, at least, be transformed into subfora that demand proper scholarship. Well, Religion will. Perhaps Pseudoscience can become a second Cesspool, although I do think a place to let people's fancies run wild is helpful.

    (Insert Title Here)

I would refer you to my prior remarks:

In the past, some moderators have expressed concerns about authoritarianism.

It's quite simple: The bloodletting that would occur from an abrupt transition diminishes some people's enthusiasm for change.

Not necessarily. In recent years, political affiliation or identification has been an important criterion. It was a necessary consideration in at least one recent elevation, and I'm trying to think back and remember if we've ever given an identifying theist the keys to the Religion subforum.

Um.. excuse me, that thread was meant to encourage people to learn something about nature. But, apparently, the thread asks too much.
    Maybe you should participate..

I'm not saying it is a scholarly thread. I just think that some people could learn a little about nature. I thought the "game" offered a fun way of doing that, but I guess reading a bit about an animal's or plant's ecology, lifecycle etc and then writing a ten sentence piece about it is just too much to ask..
Or maybe people just don't think it's fun..
