I am very good at relating technical concepts to people without a technical background. That makes me a communicator.
I have the same ability, but as you all know concision is not a high priority for me, so I've never tried to condense it into a single word. I think perhaps "interpreter" comes close, if the context is favorable to understanding it. I stopped making fun of people who are not technically proficient several decades ago. They generally have some other skill that qualifies them for their own job, and it's usually one that I don't have. If everybody had the same skillset there would be a whole lot of important jobs going undone. For the last few years I've been a technical writer, and the reason I get work (not to mention good pay for it) is that most of the techies you idolize can't put a grammatically correct sentence together.

That's why I created a motto for my Tech support dept. "Bringing back old fashioned service". It's kinda hokey, but it works. I try to be understanding, and reassure the customer using easy, simple to understand terms. Empathy goes a long way, and people can detect fake empathy. I'm not trying to brag (yes you are) but...I have a 99% customer satisfaction, by a recent poll done by customer service. I'm very proud of that. I love it when (like Joe Walsh says) ..they write me letters...tell me I'm great. Honestly, I'd rather talk to someone who admits not having much technical knowledge, as they generally listen to what I have to say, and follow my instructions. The worst is talking to someone who thinks they know something, but really doesn't. They can be real jerks.
i am sure that alot of your calls are also the ones that you say to yourself "OMFG!! THIS IS A COMMON SINCE PROBLEM TO FIX!!"
what about the ones who think they know something and it turns out they do?.. most tech ppl i deal with on the phone are reading from a script or out of a book and don't have a clue when it comes to something not in the book(my probs are never standard...as i can usually figure it out for myself, )

I really don't think there is a better word than pedagogue - though it does imply that you are condescending to those you teach. Does it have to be a noun? You are articulate, perhaps? Here, try This and combine it with This. That's what I do when I can't find the right word.

That was my guess as well. That's why I wondered if he could rephrase to use an adjective, like articulate, instead.
I agree. Also, if it is for some kind of cover letter (or recommendation letter and the likes), I think it's best to avoid sophisticated terms so that it will not create confusion or worse, error. This: I say is clear and effective.

No it's not. It's clear and effective but those aren't the only measures of good communication. It's clumsy. The word "technical" is used three times in one sentence. He could probably get away with it in speech, but if he's applying for a job that requires good communication skills, that sentence is a resume-killer. I'm not sure there is a good one-word term for this ability, because the verb needs a direct object for clarity and possibly also an indirect object. You could say you're a skilled interpreter of technical jargon (or information or material) for laymen (or end users or managers), or that you're good at elucidating technical issues (or information or material) for laymen (or end users or managers). I would avoid using the ten-dollar word "elucidator," even though my spell checker accepted it. Five dollars for "elucidate" is enough.Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

Although it is really two words: Technical writer Technical writing Abbreviated as: Tech writer This is an actual, true job, or job description, common in the US, and conveys precisely what Ben is seeking. Because it is not a single word? Tech-writer is quickly becoming one word, all that is left is to drop the hyphen. Maybe my previous post got lost in the fog...
