sciforums is looking for two new moderators. We need one moderator for the Free Thoughts subforum and one for Art & Culture.

If you are interested in the job, please nominate yourself for the position in this thread. You should state which forum(s) (of the two) you'd be interested in moderating, what you would bring to the position (in terms of interest, "qualifications" etc.), and why you want to moderate the forum(s). Any other information you want to provide to make your case is also welcome.

This thread will remain open for 1 week (until approximately Monday 19 October). At that point, the administrators will decide how to proceed with appointing the new moderators. (A democratic vote is one possibility being considered.)

DO NOT use this thread to nominate other people. Self-nominations only, please.

I'll do it. I have a lot of free time. I'd do either of the subforums. they both interest me in having a lot of topics under them. for the arts and culture I am a big fan of the arts.

I'd like to moderate in Free Thoughts. It's really a consortium of threads that are unrelated to eachother and find common thread in their lack of well defined subforum. The main responsibilities are insuring topics actually belong in the forum, if not, where do they belong...if they don't belong there it's most likely Pseudoscience or Cespool. It's a relatively peaceful forum, people are typically not emotionally attached to the topics. I'm here frequently because most of my school work is done using software to analyze statistical data. I wouldn't know what to do with Art & Culture, since I'm not educated in any arts other than Music - of which I have 3 years tonal harmony and music history.

I would consider nominating myself, but first I must ask a question:
When would these new moderators be appointed?
The reason for this question is that if I were to nominate myself and I was to be selected I would not have sufficient time to allocate to the position until about a week into November, after that I should have plenty of time though.

I wouldn't even think of nominating someone else. And do you know why, Comrade 6079 Smith W?

When you think Geoff, don't you think trolling, sniping and pointless banter? I certainly do. And that's why I, GeoffP, being of fairly sound mind, am entering the hard-fought race for the moderator of Free Thoughts.

The definition, I find, of the "Free Thoughts" forum, is - and I quote - "random ideas, thoughts, trivialities". I think this says volumes about my suitability for the role of Free Thoughts moderator.

(Although, as a Moderator of Free Thoughts, isn't my role to have more free thought and less moderation? That was a free free thought just now, tossed out there for your appreciation, free of charge.)

If we must speak of trivialities: who among my honourable opponents is the dictator of an entire, fictitious nation? From which he returned from exile?

If we must speak of random ideas: who among my tolerable opponents once suggested that Jane Goodall was sexually molested by a chimp?

If we must speak of thoughts: who among my scurrilous opponents was brave enough to slay the dreaded Happeh (Grendel of the common man's logic) and institutionalize the carcass of his madness behind the glass plating that is our most noble and cherished SciEncylopedia? Every encyclopediphile posting at SciForums has won, by the sweat of my thighs, the hard-earned right of every Sciforumer to click by and wonder "what the hell was that about?"

Frankly, Free Thoughts is the testing-ground for all the whacko ideas that then migrate into the regular sub-forums. Whether it's ghosts, Star Wars obsessions, or the morality of killing an intruder with a samurai sword, every madman with a Catcher in the Rye book tucked into his back pocket stops at Free Thoughts first to dip his crazy-stinky little toe into the water of our collective consciousness to see how much crap the SciCommunity will tolerate, before then packing up his hobo-napkin and stick and heading straight to Physics and Math...and then back down to Pseudoscience.

Yet doesn't the SciCommunity deserve a frontdoor man with a keen interest in the absurd - in Free Thinking - but still possessed of the mental acumen to separate shit from sugar? Wheat from chaff? And does not the name GeoffP immediately bring to mind such keen powers of objective analysis, or at least of abusing the insane? A vote for me is a vote for Lunatic Moderation With A Human Face, And A Truncheon In The Back Pocket.

Think about it: when you go to a fine restaurant, do you want a macaroni-armed pencil-pusher minding the front door, or a square-jawed Bruce Campell-type keeping the hordes of the unwashed from fouling your table with their ideas on weed and crop circles? And if your answer to that question is an unapologetic What?, then GeoffP is your man for this unpaid abuse-taking position.

So think fast and not too critically and vote for GeoffP as Moderator of Free Thoughts! Your conscience will, later, probably shrug.

Also I would very much be happy to moderate Arts&Culture section with main focus on Classical Art like Michelangelo and Culture and study of it like the rap and how it improves lifes for us all. Because rap is good.

Oh, fine. We're all making serious statements now.

Well, I reiterate: I like Free Thoughts. I'm diligent, honest, fair and utterly ethical, as my record shows. My service to the forum would be completely transparent and even-handed. Both sides!

A vote for Geoff is a vote for Common Sense, and Geoff.

Well, it was actually more grudging than you make it sound. But I was able to abate their fears of another unaccountable dictatorship with an impassioned speech and a row of machinegunners.

I thank you! You sir, will have your pick of the fine toothless fillies that frequent Free Thoughts.

I will assume your shots are up to date.

*cough* What?! "DO NOT use this thread to nominate other people."

Question to those who nominated themselves for the proposed positions: Why do you want to mod other people's actions? Other than that you like to take part in said subforums' discussions.. What makes you want to invest time into moderating other people's actions?
