Combining the learning robotic helicopter article (Science Illustrated Sept/Oct 2009) with the need to control mosquito transmitted diseases (Science Illustrated), can't this whizz gadget initially be targeted for the lucrative holiday market before bringing prices down for a cheaper mass market model? (One that could wrap spider silk around the critters would be impressive. Beat the spider at it's own game. Larger versions could even be used by the police as a non-lethal device of apprehension for dangerous suspects)

Nobody think this is worthy of a new must have product for the intrepid traveller?

There's already robotic wasps that have been developed for espionage Military Builds Robotic Insects. You've got no business sense with a combined desire to help your fellow man, then? It's got potential, at least.

No, there aren't. And even if there were, a robotic military unit is something entirely different than a 10,000 USD fly swatter.

Business sense? lol You try and find people that would want to buy such a fly swatter then, especially in these times.

Ones that don't want dengue fever or malaria, but have lots of dosh! You're probably going to say that robo-bats don't exist either, so I won't bother with the link.

Catch them one by one using a mosquito-hunting helicopter? lol No, there is no market.

I disagree. You're just not forward thinking enough. A mini robo-bat would be more saleable and a futuristic trendy new must-have gadget imo. Big market.

how about this "An office-home catapult system"...which will use office workers as projectiles as well as business partners and catapult them back to conference rooms and their homes with a slingshot effect over hundreds of miles, slight acceleration will probably do them good anyways.

    or...

A laser system mounted on a dog which sends a laser beams and heats up and evaporates poop left by the dog, so that the owner does not have to pick it up

    oh no....this ones' better

a portable toilet mounted as a bookpack on one's back...go and poop and pee anywhere in the city or anywhere you wish, no probs.

is that crazy enough on your level? or does the rabbithole needs to be deeper?

or...A gun that uses sausages as projectiles, which have an electronic nano-device in them. The sausage flies out of the gun and lands on a street, a hungry dude insurgent in Baghdad picks it up and eats it, the electronic nano-device inside the sausage is ingested inside the dude's stomach and send hypnotic psycho-messages to the brain of the dude...it tells him to make chocolate pancakes with american cheese on them while listening to American rap, all in his Iraqi house...the dude does what he is hypnotized to do and makes those pancakes while listening to American rap, his Iraqi family gets angry at him and beats him up with metal bars and so he changes his life all around, sells his Ak-47 to pay for the school to learn quantum physics and designs a spaceship that takes him to Mars where he proves that moon is indeed made of cheese by blowing up the real moon and constructing a cheese factory on the Mars by cloning his own cells to make cloned cows with genetic engineering which make milk and are made into cheese. He than take the cheese to space and constructs a giant replica of a moon out of it. But wait thats not all of the story...I forgot to tell you about Bush in this all...

dragon; I appreciate your humourous contributions but the difference is that hundreds of thousands of dollars are currently being spent in developing a robo-bat. Btw I haven't seen or read anything about the 'rabbithole' ideology, but just from talking to someone about it, it sounds like a load of bull.

How about this: Robotic bugs that remove, and dispose of, boogers from your nose.
Or what about a hoovering robot that wipes your ass for you?

Oh yea, the future will be magnificent!

Enmos! You would be making trillions on this parallel-to-Microsoft invention type of idea

Only if it eats the mosquitoes and turns them into biofuel. And makes the other ones watch.

Don't need a robotic mosquito catcher. Plain old dragonflies work just fine. Of course I do recall an article a while back talking about using a chip to control a dragonfly's flight to carry a camera for surveillence purposes.
