Its more than that. The time frame is important. The beer caning reports are ALL from within the last week. Try copy pasting a random sentence from one of the news reports into a search engine. Many of them are all the same report.

The time frame for the other news is months [the girl was relocated to Bagram in May and has had 15 surgeries since]. You'd be hard pressed to find a single duplicate report

No, Gustav. A real, ongoing incident. Nor is it an "almost".
Perhaps you would pay more attention if you identified with the lass in question, ja?
Is she the wrong shade of brown? Are her eyes a little more slanted than yours?
Or does your compassion run only to the "larger issues"?

Odd how those who present themselves as being compassionate and caring will only be so when it furthers their own agendas.

To Gustav, this is nothing. Tabloid journalism.
SAM defended the Malays, saying a country should be allowed to act in a way it desires without interference from outside.
Which is, incidentally, very much what she constantly attacks the Americans for doing.

This is the "compassion" the so love to identify themselves with. This is their "caring".

They have other things which weigh more heavily upon their minds.
They, the compassionate. They, who fight for equality and justice.
They say to you : Begone, girl. We care not for this, we have heavier burdens to consider. What is the suffering of one girl compared to that of thousands?

    /dismissed

I fail to understand what bravery has to do with it. Perhaps you were attempting to goad me?

    /mocking <-

No, I should not. It is invariably disappointing these days.
Still. I like to watch. And here, much as I am loathe to admit, is humanity Bas Relief.

Do not ever presume I am here to teach the likes of you anything at all.

And thus is the message ignored due to the nature of the messenger.

    Hmm. Blackadder.

Captain Darling: So you see, Blackadder, Field Marshall Haig is most anxious to eliminate all these German spies.
General Melchett: Filthy hun weasels, fighting their dirty underhand war!
Captain Darling: And fortunately, one of our spies...
General Melchett: Splendid fellows, brave heroes risking life and limb for Blighty!

Ah. the media. whether or not we listen to them depends entirely, it appears, on what they have to say.

No the message is the same in both cases. What is interesting is the manner of presentation and dispersal. Note that one is obtained from a foreign news network and requires payment [which is a challenge for local newspapers- this is where a free news dispersal service becomes valuable]. The other is easily accessible and needs no payment since it only needs a Press release on the issue from the vested authorities who have these press releases at intervals anyway.

And yet the more visually dramatic, the more "close to home" and the more emotive news media is buried in favour of something that will probably not even take place.

Since when is a woman who is almost punished more newsworthy than an eight year old with her face and body melted into a gruesome mess?

That is where you err, Gustav.
Do you not decry the Americans for diverting attention from small issues with larger ones? Have you not been disgusted with the tactic used by politicians all over the world?

Yet here you are. Supporting one who is attempting to do just that.

60,000 posts of prevarication. And you... an adjunct.

Are you disappointed your little thread has become something else, SAM? Has it been derailed?
Is someone ignoring things they don't want to answer in order to talk about something else?
Do they just go on and on without addressing anything you happen to bring up?
Are they going off in a direction you never intended the thread to take?

    Awww.

Fuck me. You truly are stupid.

I picked a state out of the hat. I'm not American, never been there and don't particularly want to go. It's full of Americans, you see. Shame about that. Probably a lovely place otherwise.

Not that I'm biased, of course. I feel much the same way about most of the world.

Hmm. Yet you just happened to pick that state (in that region) which happens to have the highest concentration of intolerant and anitsemitic dullards--ummm, at least according to popular perception. Heh.

    That is precisely my dilemma.

Likewise. My only solution has been to remain permanently uprooted. And so, back to the Jews...

SAM, I have a question for you, hopefully you will answer it:

You seem to believe you some right to direct or control public discourse or at least seem upset when the discussion is not focused on whatever topic you believe is the most important, why?

Not at all. I just don't like it when there is evident bias in moderation. All members should be held to a similar standard of moderation [which does not mean that all opinions are equal, just that all opportunities for expression should be]. You can't lock down one thread saying its preaching then allow another to stand because you think its alright to educate people when you agree with the parody of a belief.

I am referring specifically to the public in general, not just sciforums.
You seem to believe that something is wrong if the public in general is discussing in greater volume a topic other than that which you prefer.

I'm more interested in if the public has been given an equal opportunity to access all points of view. What if all but the Arab points of view were blocked from your media?
