Which neurological functions become imbalanced? What do you mean by imbalanced? I'm just asking for clarification so we can meaningfully discuss this. Often this sort of dialogue is impeded by muddy definitions.

Sure, people defend what they love. People who use pot regularly are more likely to defend its use. These blanket truisms could be applied to guns, ice fishing, basketball, and voting for the GOP. As for chances of decriminalisation becoming more remote, it's actually a trend on the rise. The ultimate battle between state's rights and the Federal government is being drawn... and both sides are drawing plans for the outcome, whatever that may be.

I would say the conclusion to draw from the time it takes for a former daily user to detect notable changes is rather that the effects of cannabis use are relatively harmless. Relatively... meaning I'm someone who can see the forest for the... o look at all the trees, so pretty!

AFAIK there are no reputable studies indicating that marijuana is physically addictive. Nicotine has been identified among other compounds to be the addicitve, habit-forming property of tobacco; there is no similar set of compounds identified for Cannabis. Clinically, it's equivalent to needing to shake your habit of eating lollipops every day.

Hook me up with a source por favor. I'd like to check some of that.

    Okay so far...

Nope. Cite a source, please, that identifies the psychiatric damage caused by marijuana use.

It does. Your perspective comes through clearly in your argument: hardly dispassionate, and apparently just as open to factual information about the subject as those you call pro decriminalisation lobbyists and pot heads.

Pot affects everyone differently. Some people retain a residual clarity and some people's obscures.

Do what I and many, many others do. Save it for an occasion.
It's much more enjoyable that way.

Toxicology build up? Did I just read that right?

Increasing your metabolism is bound to deplete the build up, so instead of this "1 year detox" CluelessHusband mentioned, you can most likely cut that back to 1 month tops if you get active (i.e. lift weights, eat spicy foods, drink lots of water, aerobics, &c, &c). As I've already said, 1 month can feel like a world of difference.

    Pot affects different people differently.
The memory loss stuff is short term memory loss, no worries long term, typically.
Some people can get pretty bad hallucinations from regular pot, I am told they aren't enjoyable, but it is rare and also short term.
    Motor skills also short term.

I don't think any long term studies have ever been released but when I did a project on pot about 7 or 8 years ago I couldn't find any long term affects that were supported with evidence. 7 or 8 years ago they couldn't even link cancer to pot smoke other then speculation from the tar, cause the long term testing just wasn't done.

Seems safe enuff an its "effects" seem to be short term so those ant no big issues... but why woudnt any of you pot smokers be pleased if you'r younger brother or sister picked up the weed habit.???

    Edit:::

I suspect it woud be because you woud care about you'r brother or sister.???

You know, people can smoke weed and function normally and live a normal life (if used in MODERATION). I hope you're not implicating that. And the fact of the matter is that if by coincidence I had a younger brother or sister that smoked it I would not care , just like if I found out they were engaging in sex--as long as its safe (i.e. always keep it in the trunk when driving, never drive while high, always smoke it in a house and never in a car, dont talk about it around cops, &c). I know that there are no scientific peer-reviewed articles that support all of these so called "side effects", just like there is no scientific peer-reviewed article that proves that God exist.

Until I see the evidence then I will always be a skeptic and even then I'll still be skeptical (comes along with being a scientist and all). I see no problems in smoking it with a brother or sister, and its actually better because its not like smoking with a stranger and getting a paranoia feeling. You act like its a sin, and its not. Might be illegal, but then again don't we all speed in our vehicles from time to time? So in a sense its not illegal unless you get caught. Now, if it were something like crack, heroin, or the hard anaesthetic and physically dependent drugs it would be a different story--but just marijuana?

You say it takes a year to get off the drug and get used to life without it. Hey, you had to get that information from somewhere. Better site your sources, otherwise everything you say is just garbage. Unless, of course, you experienced that transition and can elaborate in your own words what its like (i.e. like filling a void in your brain from this so-called chemical imbalance that Stryder had mentioned).

Dear Mr. Scientist Jnc1110: "Site" is actually, in the context you use it in, cite.

And for a scientist's stance on this, you have very unscientific means of answering and calling forth a point...

I guess I get a point deducted from my reply then. Will I still be able to go to med school?

There are many different types of scientist. I'd like to elaborate more but I'm afraid I'm just wasting my own time. I have hypotheses to test, so I'm done arguing with you children. There's no use in getting wrapped up in a senseless argument with people who haven't won a nobel prize yet, so I believe I will be on my way.

By the way, shouldn't all of you scientists be working on a project to get grant money or something? Oh that's right, you didn't get the grant money to start the project so here you are reading pointless forums and pretending you know more than everyone. My bad.

And you fall into that category as well, hot shot. That's exactly what you're doing.

You have a Nobel prize? Oh my. You're accomplishment makes me feel so incompetent and meek in your shining light.

By the way, there are many different types of scientists. Can't use a singular word with a plural context. They must not teach that in pre med?

The problem is that most people that smoke pot to an extent aren't going to want to lift weights or exercise, in fact their priority will probably be to find the nearest snack to munch on and quote "chill out" unquote. This is my point in regards to statements on imbalance however, because while you might "chill out" during a high, it can actually raise anxiety when not being used. Which is why some argue they use it to chill out, they just seemingly ignore any usage being apart of the pattern.

You don't need me to cite sources, if you do a search online you'll soon find enough, of course you'll also find a whole bunch of discussions where people try to protect the drug rather than face the facts that it does have side effects that can be permanent.

Any source I'd put here isn't from a journal or paper on the subject, there is enough of them already, I just know about the problem through my own observations and investigation into the area. (This actually means that I've observed people within a Mental Hospital recovering from such psychotic episodes induced by marijuana and how they can even ignore that their psychosis has come from their habit.)

Although not much evidence is out there on long term effects - many assume because of tar, MJ probably has some of the same long term effects that cigarettes have.

One of those effects is stunting growth.

I enjoy my pot every so often, but I wouldn't recommend it to someone that has not went through maturity yet!

Another factor with the little brother or sister that comes into play would be, why are they interested? Is it because they saw me doing it?
No way I'm gonna let my kid brother try weed, just cause he 'wants to be cool, like his brother'!
I don't smoke in front of kids - and I think of pot along the same lines as alcohol and cigarettes, not for kids - and probably not too good for you neither.
However, pot has less chemicals than cigarettes (although the tar is more), and the long term effects don't appear to be as bad as either cigarettes or alcohol - although I do a little of all 3 anyway, just to make sure they can't blame weed when cigarettes kill me, lol.

    Not quite true:

In short, you are more likely to suffer lung cancer according to their study for smoking cannabis.

Excuse me, has no body heard of vapping? Get a vaporizer, set it around 350 degrees and you get no combustion products (I'm told).

Sorry to bump an old topic, but I feel as if THC really just short circuits your short term memory and also causes abstractions to be made from long term. Usually my long term memory is very 'concrete' in how I remember details, but when I am on THC, I look at my past life in almost story-like detail and view myself from the third person which is both enlightening and frightening.
