To show how fascist governments suppress opposition, if they can. Even a human rights group then becomes a virus or an enemy; you can see this trend in how Israel [or its supporters] speaks of the UNHCR, the Red Cross, BTselem, anti-Zionists, ICAHD, ie almost every peace movement that opposes its policies.

To supporters of Israel, of course, this is all evidence of incipient antisemitism that resides in all goyim.

This isn't the united action of a government though, is it SAM? It's one guy who was forced to retract his statement.

The OP? Yes, although he did not actually retract anything

    The rest? No.

They used to be a virus. I agree. Look at what happened thanks to them - intifada 2.0 + Gaza war + Lebanon war. But today they are an ineffective, impotent virus whose platform has been thoroughly discredited by events and "Palestinians'" and other Muslim countries' behaviour. They no longer have the popular support they used to enjoy because nobody believes them, and thinks that their "vision" is a sad joke.

Look at Labour (center left) and Meretz's (far left) amount of seats in the Israeli parliament... it's TINY compared to what it used to be.

They aren't a virus. They're hasbeens. The guy who said those comments was the IDF's chief of staff during the worst years of the 2nd intifada. He was the guy who had to deal with the peacenik consequences, with sending teen/tween soldiers to Jenin to die instead of flattening it from the air because of the government decisions that were forced on it by the Peace Now camp. As expected, he's a bit jaded about these groups.

Nobody said that peace was a virus. It was said that Peace Now (which appears to be some sort of organization) is a virus. Opposing peace isn't the same thing as opposing an organization that happens to have "peace" in its name.

Either way, the clock is ticking. Just as it did for South Africa. Freedom and equality for all, are on the horizon.

Actually I agree with him. Look beyond its name, the organization is treacherous.

All that because a politician called an opposing group a name? You have to have thicker skin in politics.

I think the problem is more to do with the specific name he chose rather than the fact he called Peace Now a name. Seems a lot of Israelis were wondering what he would do to Peace Now if it was only him making the laws and deciding on punishments. By the sounds of it, Netanyahu probably told him bluntly to keep his yapper shut and not to cause these kinds of uproars in the future.

Wow. I was just making this analogy to a Muslim friend of mine today. As I said to her, the major difference between the South African situation and the Israili/Palestian situation is that the blacks in South Africa weren't terrorists. She, of course, countered with the fact that the Jews have committed their share of atrocities as well. But that doesn't matter. Every time some Palestinian gets on a schoolbus and blows up a bunch of kids, they make themselves look like depraved animals and give Israel license to do whatever it wants.

If the Palestinians would practice non-violent resistance, the world would turn against the Israelis and tie their hands as happened in South Africa. But so long as they continue to practice terrorism, they will continue to suffer and the world will say "There's blood on both their hands".

bullshit mad, look at the way the east timories gurilla solders were treated. they were surported, the country given idependence and they became the army.

the difference is that the west (paticually the US) has CHOSEN to make israil the "good guys" and they now gave the exact same problems that they had with sadam and osama. "when you lay with dogs you wake with flees" the blood is on your hands because they are your weapons being used and your money used to buy them

they do it just never gets reported. There are almost weekly nonviolent protest in one town. The right wing mainstream media only reports on the arabs as terrorists because of their love affair with Israel.
