When they got a cut or injury, they would go to an ant's nest and stir it up with a cloth. Then they would shake all the ants off and wrap the wound with the cloth. Scientists now know that ants use a special gland to produce an anti-bacterial liquid which prevents disease and infection from spreading through ant colonies. And yet primitive people discovered it on their own.

Which is why its probably the Egyptians who discovered it.

So there's an "enormous risk" in letting your child grow up with an uncircumcised penis?

Not arguing for routine circumcision? Why say there's a huge risk in not circumcising, then say you probably wouldn't do it to your son?

It's his own body. He should have the right to grow up and, if he wishes, choose to always use condoms, stay monogamous, and make sure the person he is having sex with is healthy, rather than have something cut off him when he cannot consent to it.

I call bullshit. It seems very, very unlikely to me that the tiny amount of antibacterial material that would be on the cloth from such a procedure would have any significant effects. Do you have any sources to indicate that this actually works?

Uh...did you read your own link? It says the Egyptians did it for religious/ritualistic reasons.

And? Everything the Egyptians did was rooted in magic, including medicine.

And so they probably had no idea there were health benefits. If they had know about health benefits, they would probably have done it to everyone rather than just the priests.

What about the midwest, which has the highest rate of circumcision @ 80% and has seen no recent decline despite the fact that there are very few Jews there? Also, 42 is "aged"? What is this, Logan's Run?

You might consider the vast cultural differences between Japan and the US. Also, guess who has the lowest rate of circumcision and the highest rate of HIV? Blacks. Blacks, which make up only 13% of the population account for 50% or new HIV infections and 42% of new AIDS cases. I don't have time right now to check, but I wonder how the HIV rate in the western US (with the lowest percent of cut males) compares with the rate in the east and midwest?

What! :bugeye: Non-circumcised men do not stink down below. They pull back the foreskin when they shower and clean the damn thing.

Never heard such nonsense, as for enjoyment during sex its more enjoyable than a penis without its cloaking device.

SAM when did you have occasion to see an uncircumcised penis?

Yeah the cultural difference is the use of condoms. The same cultural difference exists between black americans and their white peers, not using a condom. There is some sort of taboo surrounding using condoms among many black americans, so wa la STIs for everyone. In prevention pamphlets they hand out, they say use a condom not remove ur foreskin, because let's face it circumcisied men can get HIV by having sex with an infected person too. Both circumsiced and uncircumcised men need to wear condoms to prevent transmission. That's like telling women if they stand up after sex they won't get pregnant, while the risk is slightly reduced, this should not be a woman's form of birth control, nor should a circumcised penis be a substitute for a condom.

Little infants have no choice . Their parents choose their names, their ways of life . This is what families are, were and will be .

Is it that unbelievable? Lots of old folk remedies actually work, regardless if those folks knew why it worked or not. I mean cobwebs do cause blood to clot faster and making pregnant women upset is bad for their baby.

That's right, they didn't have to know what bacteria were, they only had to know it worked.

Public health concerns usually trump freedom of choice in America. Notice the crusade to ban tobacco smoke from public places over its alleged effect on respiratory ailments in non-smokers. This is something no one will ever convince me has actually been measured honestly and accurately, since it's the shit-for-brains government who's doing it. (The same morons working for the employer-of-last-resort who told us marijuana is more harmful than tobacco and alcohol, and that Saddam had WMDs.) Anecdotal evidence from various presumed-respectable experts in Africa indicates that circumcision reduces the rate of HIV infection. HIV is almost as big a scare in America as terrorism, so this would definitely not be the truck to stand in front of no matter how well armed you are with statistics to the contrary--much less concern for freedom of choice.
I don't think you'll find that anywhere near universal in the USA. Lots of Euro-American women date Afro-American men, who statistically are likely to be uncircumcised.
I knew a gay fellow who felt quite the opposite. And he was the most uptight, coat-and-tie kind of guy you'd ever meet. He even knew words for rituals concerning foreskins that I didn't know existed.
Probably because of the high percentage of Latinos in our population. Virtually all of the Euro-American guys I've seen naked in the West have been circumcised.
Because they are not on the same plane. It's been asserted that circumcision reduces a man's sexual sensitivity, but the only way to test that hypothesis is to interview a sexually active man who was circumcised in adulthood, and I haven't seen that happen. In any case the effect certainly is not life-altering. Have you seen any statistics showing that circumcised men have a greater incidence of impotence or problems reaching climax?

Clitoridectomy, on the other hand (regardless of what the apologists try to tell you), is performed specifically for the purpose of reducing or even eliminating a woman's ability to become sexually aroused. It makes it clear that in traditional Muslim societies the purpose of intercourse is strictly for the pleasure of the husband and for procreation.

They're hardly in the same category.
Bullshit. That's a term that the Muslims have sneakily been trying to inject into our language. We ain't buyin' it. Please stop spreading it around; it's a lie and it dishonors women.

You might occasionally see it in a family newspaper that suddenly had to cover the issue and couldn't bring themselves to print the word "clitoridectomy." They're adding to the problem and that doesn't mean you should too.
Condoms are not 100% effective at either preventing pregnancy or blocking the transmission of HIV. Okay maybe the failures are all due to human error but that hardly matters when you're talking about a deadly disease.

And BTW you just called most Catholics "idiots."
I suppose there was an era when that was true, although it was also a cultural identifier. But these days, as I noted above, the emphasis is on public health. Whether or not circumcision actually does reduce the transmission of HIV is controversial, but at the moment public opinion and public health authorities weigh in on the Yes side.
And I'm sure they didn't use words like "antibacterial." That's just a convenient translation. Some primitive tribes also discovered the disinfectant properties of dog saliva, and I'm sure they never heard the word "disinfectant" either.

Except in both those instances they can change it if they don't like things as they stand. Many people change their names and lifestyles, but regrowing body parts is a different matter, if you change your mind later.

I say we take care of the gunk under the head of our junk.

Be it circumcision, frequent masturbation, or actually showering every other week; we have to prevent foul cheese smells from wafting into public.
