Did you see how the German politicians keep on kissing the asses of the Americans and the Jews by apologizing about WWII ?. There is no need for all that as it puts their people down , down and down.

The Germans themselves recognize the importance of remembering these events.

I love Germany. I love it so much I wish we still had two...

The fact of the matter is that post-war Germany was organized around the goal of making damn sure the Germans as a people know that they done wrong and need to make sure they stop that. Granted, there were some who opposed the Third Reich, but a relative handful.

The overall view of German is crafted with an eye to instilling a strong culture-wide sense that Germans need to make a full and complete break from the Nazi past. As it stands now, you often see a "well the Nazis did a few things right" lines of thought. While that undoubtedly true, it's also true that looking for the good in an evil regime is the first step in deciding that maybe they weren't so evil after all.

As someone of German descent myself, I recall my grandfather talking with pride about killing Nazis and talking about all the wrong the Germans had done. If the rest of the West were not inculcating a "Germans are suspect" attitude, then it is hard to imagine Germans going to the extent they do to distance themselves, and that distance makes us all feel better (especially the Belgians).

Most Americans assume that WWI was caused by schemes of the land-hungry German Kaiser and make little effort to distinguish his regime from the Nazis. I recall my grandfather implicitly assumed that some perceived covetousness of the Kaiser transferred over to the Nazis.

It is both weird and bizzare kind of politics for the German government to be crying about what Germany did in the far past and forgetting what other nations did and are still doing like the US for instance . The US still have military bases in Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, the Middle East....etc and at the same time Germany is supporting the US in both Iraq and Afghanistan . This is another fucked up German politics as I see it .

    Sighs. I completely disagree...

Anyone who's discriminated by or against for being German, well, that kinda sucks. You normally wouldn't expect somebody to be discriminated against just because they are German ... Right?

On the other hand, there is the idea that discrimination aganist a german is legal if a state or person does not stand for that. I can imagine the person in the article who discriminated aganist him or her feels pretty bad for this be publicized (if you ask me that is what I would say) wouldn't you think?

Anyway, I'd hate it just as much as anybody to see anyone discriminated against (unfairly).

    Thanks dumbletwad (see! Discrimination!!!)!

I didn't read the full opening post (somebody shoot me), but, I still think it's kinda silly to proclaim. You look at a ... german being discriminated aganist so what it's completely legal and stuff. I think any german who's discriminated aganist probably had their reasons. It feels pretty shitty I'd imagine to be discriminated aganist.

seems hypocritical when they didn't even enter the war til the last minute. but they've made up for it with nam, iraq, afghanistan. so don't worry america, we're cool. you can stop. can you stop?

germany did send the whole world to war, and the people who fought and saw others die are still around, so i don't think it unreasonable for a person to still be upset over ww2. especially when nazis are so vilifiable, with the whole genocide thing.

given germans killed his nan i'm not surprised he's a bit racist. i call my half german friend a nazi, but only as a joke.

Most americans do not know that a kaisar had anything to do with WW1 let alone land hunger being a factor. WW2 they might have some opinions about, but their collective memory just doesn't hold any detail at all about ww1.

I gotta say that I know a good many German americans and not one of them has been discriminated against for it. Have you experienced this in other instances?

The German people were victims of the Nazi regime. They were lied to, manipulated and led into slaughter and treated as cannon fodder. The German people were Jewish and some are still. And Turkish and so on.
