You must be a true historian... Only high officers wore plumed helmets.

It sure looks retarded. I am not sure it is really good for anything useful.

I did say that the connection would have been a very twisted and weird one. I remember, from a English Literature class I took about five years ago, a side-tangent stemming from our reading of Beowulf. He attempted to argue that the "Dragon" Beowulf faught may have actually been a draugar, at least in the original legends pertaining to this folk hero. He argued that there was a linguistic misunderstanding somewhere along the line, resulting in the draugar being transformed into a fire-breathing dragon. Draco never EVER referred to an undead spirit in Greek or Roman mythology. It always referred to a multiple-headed serpent, more similar to the creature that is referred to in the Book of Revelation than those cute, firebreathing beasties we know in modern times. The writer of the original book probably got the term from a culture that was incorrectly using a Roman term to refer to an undead creature from Norse mythology. Like I said, the connection would be a very twisted one.

Oh yeah, everyone should have a nuclear weapon launcher that only throws the damn warhead 2 km.
And there's plenty more where they came from...

Like I said: the word was "heard" as Draco/ Drakul/ whatever (okay or read).
But the origins of draco/ Dracul are probably as old as those of draugr so any actual connection is tenuous at best.

I've got a similar problem. People tend to assume that, just because I happen to be physically attractive, I must be vain about my appearance. Shit, if I am vain about anything, I am vain about the contents of my head, not my looks. Frankly, I think I look a little bit too effeminate.

I remember an unpleasant episode that I had about a year ago: I was having a fairly nice conversation with a fellow, and we were getting along okay. Well, he gave me a hyperlink to a picture of himself he had posted on Photobucket. I decided that it would be nice to reciprocate, so I sent him a picture of myself. It went downhill from there. Apparently, he had a history of being bullied and harrassed during his adolescence, namely by athletic, attractive males. He leapt to the conclusion, right there, that I was very shallow and not very interested in intellectual pursuits. He concluded that, for our entire conversation, I was schmoozing on him with the intention of taking advantage of his innocence somehow. He accused me of it outright, and he was very defensive and angry about it. Entirely because I looked like the people who used to torment him, through an accident of genetics, he ended up making several highly unfair assumptions about the kind of person I am.

In real life, I am actually very socially awkward and, in some respects, very shy. The only sense in which I am outgoing is that, on occasion, I will start rambling to a total stranger about whatever weird shit happens to be on my mind at the time. My patterns of speech are not very good for making friends with: the only mode of speech that I really speak in is lengthy, pedantic lectures. I will go ahead and say it: one of the problems with my personality is that I tend to be unreasonably long-winded and pedantic, and I go off on numerous unnecessary, occasionally nonsensical digressions. I can only seem to get along with people who tend to do the same thing for the same reasons. I was never very popular. Hell, until I actually found a decent lover, I always thought that I was grossly unattractive. He's the one who rehabilitated me and convinced me to start taking better care of myself.

Unfortunately, we ARE living in a world where people tend to be judged primarily by their appearances, at least at first blush, and that's not about to change.

There is no etymological connection between the original terms, draco and draugl. None. It was a misunderstanding in terms between Romanized Europe and various Germanic cultures. The creatures themselves never got very mixed-up except perhaps in some Christianized variants of Germanic folklore, probably intentional substitutions designed to take advantage of people's lack of literacy. The Christians were actually very incompetent in their endeavors to murder these Germanic cultures, though, because a number of aspects of these cultures survive in literature even today. Some people even half-believe in them. As represented in the case of Dracula, though, history occasionally has a propensity to use a Romanized variant of the term that just SOUNDS similar, even though it refers to something completely different. This happens in languages all the time.

    Er, okay.
So why the "being draugars or something (this term is probably, albeit through an indirect and twisted route, where the name for "Count Dracula" comment. since Dracula IS derived from draco?

Because apparently some cultures have been using variants of "dragon" to refer to draugals. However, Vampires actually come from Slavic mythology, and I think the writer of Count Dracula was kind of playing it fast-and-loose as far as historical accuracy. Either that, or the materials that he had available to him at the time were relatively limited, probably inaccurate more often than not.

All I know is all my life I have seen for the most part beautiful women will have a good looking man and uglier women will have an uglier men.In other words most couples are the same, good looking with good looking, average looks with average looks, ugly with ugly etc.Of course sometimes this isn't the case but only sometimes.I would find it surprising that someone has noticed just the opposite.

Are women getting more beautiful?? Possibly, because some things that affect beauty (such as health & medical technologies, cosmetics, fashion, beauty salon, etc) are getting better, which enable:
    - better teeth
    - better skin (because of good moisturizers, skin vitamins,...)
    - better make up
    - better clothing, unlike in past time

    - better hair model, unlike in past time where the hair ruins your beauty:

    - better symmetry, preferable boobs size, etc through cosmetic surgery
    - better shape, because of available variety exercise (yoga, gym, etc)
    - etc

    yes

not only that they will also throw in the word "love" and use that as an untouchable unquestionable thing to shield questions of obvious incompatibility.
    "but i love him" etc...
as an excuse for staying with someone that even her freinds say is not matched.

women have such a strong drive to provide for their children through a partner it is VERY hard to get to a womens real sexual urges and real attractions which is also why most women define sexual attractiveness by popularity among other women or status and power.
(this is where the word "confidence" is placed to lie about the real reason in which the male has in fact just become rich famous or popular and they now re define him as sexually attractive)

what makes it hard to really get to the bizzo on is that men are really not very different in this way aside from being nurtured to be selfish to get ahead in life.

anywho... this is all old hat for me and i get bored and annoyed talking about it because it just reminds me how retarded the species is.
only typing this out in the hopes to help you a little.
