I didn't see that bit before.
I can understand why, but please don't. By leaving you'd only be increasing the crackpot ratio.

I think I agree. I tried other forums, but mostly they're inhabited mostly by idiots. There are very few posters at Sci who don't add something to the community, unlike at other places.

The one forum that I like, that you may check out too, is physicsforums.com. But there's a dumbass there called ``Marcus'' who more or less runs the ``Beyond the Standard Model'' physics forum, who is absolutely clueless about physics. That's why I stopped posting there.

Idle threat. He just likes the idea of counter-threads saying 'oh no please don't go:bawl: Oh where is Oli boo hoo hoo'
That's all. He's not going anywhere, who else would stroke his ego? I mean what would he do?

I don't hate Oli. It's an observation. He's always threatening to leave, people start a 'come back' thread thinking he has gone off an offed himself. He returns to hugs and kisses. Look he thinks others need to justify themselves to him. Look at the thread, if they don't leave he will leave. If we don't change he will leave. Looks pretty childish to me not to mention a tad bit egocentric.

I came here to share what I have learned and learn what others are sharing. I don't think it is possible for one person to know all things (though that would be cool). I thought SF would be a good place to find out how much I don't know. Obviously I have my own ideas about the structure of existence however I am not delusional in the belief that my way is the best way. Who am I to declare that? I want to be corrected, I want to learn where my ideas fail, I want to know what and how others think (be them right or wrong). I have noone to talk to about science in the real world and I can't think of a more unforgivable act than taking my thoughts and ideas to the grave with me. If nobody ever replies to a single post of mine I will still be able to rest in peace knowing that my ideas are out there. SF may not be the best place fot this but here I am none the less.

I come for the conversation. I learn better that way than by just reading wikipedia, which some people here think I should be doing instead.

ah, I agree. It sucks reading a post by someone you think is an expert, then to find out from a mod that they are a woo-woo. I'm glad some of your mods are so knowledgeable, especially in math/physics/astronomy/etc.

there was an episode in the howard stern movie echoed a similar sentiment

"If they hate him, then why do they listen?"
"Most common answer given ,'I want to hear what he'll say next.'"

the haters tuned in, on average, longer than a typical fan

My reasons for frequenting two science forums and a chess forum are as follows:

1.) My personal schedule is erratic and precludes much social interaction in real time, beyond work. The forums are available 24/7/365, or almost so, depending on the ISP.

2.) There is great diversity available in topics and personalities posting. I enjoy being able to to choose among such a rich tapestry of offerings and potential.

3.) Though I do not have much hard science to contribute, I am generally regarded to be observant and possessed of adequate communication skills. I come to share these skills and to improve them through interactions with others.

(As an aside, I wonder if Oli has a good recipe for Duck a l'Orange? I have a sense that he may be an Epicurean.)

it is good cause rocks need education and well S.F. is opened minded enough to dig out answers . You have to go into the dark with a flashlight to see what is hiding in the room . So Well this is the only place I know of that is tolerant enough to approach modern taboos . We don't care who reads it . Why should we . We are looking for what is real and what is fake. Is that not the bottom line ?

There is a lot of extremely talented people on this forum . I know some B personalities that have examined many aspects of reality post here so we can be in the know . They do it so we can know . B personalities gather information . It is the nature of the beast . We found a venue to express our selves . We get to speak you conversation hogs that are reading this right now . Captive audience . Yeah
