I bet you didn't know but we've already missed the official Sciforums.com birthday.... how did it get missed? Well most people didn't know how old sciforums was, and this is understandable since people have joint and left this site over the years while Schooling, going to College or University. (In fact I'm pretty surprised Gustav missed this one) Anyhow sciforums.com inception was back on the 16th of May 1999 (At least thats based on DaveW's original first user/admin account) It was created from the forum that use to run on DaveW's exosci.com website, which at the time was a site devoted to relevant news. Incidentally Tiassa's nearly been here that long since he joined 29th July 1999, so he can give a historic run down better than most here. I thought it would be a good idea to mention it, since it had gone unmentioned. If it was up to me, I have the website have a belated revamp, to celebrate it's 10 years of being a forum and have some celebrations last until may next year. feel free to add ideas to what you want to see here in Plazma's thread. http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=94081 Happy Birthday Sciforums.com Now where's my Cake?!?
Branded squirrels I never knew the actual inception date of Exosci. Thank you for telling us. We should have a virtual party every year, and pretend to eat cake and hand one another drinks ... and, well, see where it goes from there. You know, to get into the spirit of virtual communities. Or maybe not. Perhaps a poetry contest. Oh, wait, that's not necessarily a good idea, either. Maybe we can convince Plazma to capture some squirrels, shave them, brand the site logo onto their asses, and send one to every registered member, with a note reading, "Ten freakin' years, you chittering rodent bastards!" What? I don't know. Ideas for next year, anyone? Maybe have memorial coffee cups reading, "11 Years of Sciforums ... because we missed it last year." Damn. For some reason I'm drawing a blank on useful things to say. Of course, some folks would say there's nothing unusual there. Although speaking of history, I wonder, if we managed to dig up all my posts pertaining to the history of Sciforums, how many, how long, and how inconsistent would the result be?
First of all... Yay! Here ya go: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! Thanks for reminder. I like this a lot. Guys from Monolith advertised F.E.A.R. 2 with black cats wearing the game logo all over the London: Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! But shaving and squirrels in the same sentence sounds like more fun to me.
kind of like this Tiassa? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! (Incidentally that is "Smoothie" the Squirrel which was found completely devoid of all hair, not sure how the overall story panned out but it's possibly a genetic anomaly like the Black Squirrels or he ate something he was allergic too. I'm sure someone with a capacity to search could find out more.) To be honest I think a cuddly toy might be more appropriate Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! (Anyone fancy shaving a cuddly toy squirrel for a photo op?)
Ten years old? :runaway: Happy birthday, sciforums! Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! We need a "sciforums jargon" already! What about "sciforums jargon contest"? Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Thankfully I placed it in the emergency intelligence incinerator. How long has it been since I've been on this site... 2 years, Hurrah, I've been here for 1/5th of Sci. Wohoo.. I miss Sandy..
10 years gone by. I've only spent 6 here. Let's all check in here, in 10 more years OK? Probably won't need a PC (or Mac) to do it.
I actually just missed my six year anniversary here last month, and now I find out about this? Sweet. Happy belated B-Day, Sciforums!
