Sure. Why not? But lets not pretend that there is anything liberal or tolerant in such a notion. Social darwinism is not egalitarian from any perspective.
Do you know I respect Putin when he decided not to allow a new influx of foreign immigrants even though the country needs the workers. People said it was a racist move but he knows that many Russians are notoriously racist against non-white immigrants. There is a growing movement where young people attack and sometimes even kill immigrants. He knows they are not ready for diversity and so instead of putting people at risk he opted not to allow them in at all. One has to be honest about what a host culture can tolerate or not, what they are ready and open for etc. In this case even a few is too many
That is at least more honest. Perhaps they could ask the Saudis for pointers on how to maintain a homogenous society while utilising foreign labour. Or even, as you say, Putin. You'll agree that such notions are typically right wing in origin.
They wouldn't be able to since they are Saudi and not Danish. Cultures are different Sam and we don't all interact and accept things in the same way, nor do immigrants settle into different cultures in the same way.
I think the Danes will find the Saudis have much in common with them when it comes to xenophobia. They too "learned" from the experience of an influx of foreign immigrants who came to make money and never left due to their excellent social welfare system. The Danes are not xenophobic. i think its interesting that you would blame a tolerant society for taking umbrage at their values being trampled on by people they have invited into the country and not address the problems Danes have had to put up with from some of their immigrants.
I have experience of such "tolerance". We call it the Shiv Sena. They worry about the Marathi people being "wiped out" by immigration from other states. They killed a lot of people in Mumbai [formerly known as Bombay, in the pre-SS era] and destroyed the cosmopolitan and tolerant fabric of the city.
They are not worried about being wiped out. They dislike the ghettos, they don't understand why some of these immigrants don't assimilate but take advantage of the social welfare system, they dislike the gang violence, nor do they appreciate having to re-arrange themselves to accommodate those who were invited to live in Danish society. If you find that intolerant then I guess you think it intolerant to despise crime and other social ills caused by invited immigrants.
Ever wonder why some of them don't? Xenophobia is a fear of foreigners not fear of crime. They have always been happily open to foreigners its only a certain portion from certain countries who haven't done well transplanted to new soil. I figured it was because they were poor when they arrived in their new country. Then they moved out of the ghetto and the next wave of immigrants moved in. That's how it is here in the US. Here it was the Irish, then the Italians, then the Poles, then the Ukranians. In another it was the Blacks, then the Mexicans, then the Asians, and I don't know who will be next.

Except, Europe is more racist than the US and even second generation immigrants [born in Europe] are treated like foreigners. Europeans are consumed by notions of ethnic culture.
Not all of us Sam. Unfortunately I have to agree some of us are. Some of us couldn't give a flying fuck if we have people of all nationalities living next door to us. I love being part of a multicultural society. Millions of us protested against the war too, we're not all in favour of war. I'm speaking of general perceptions. Even in London, the general mood is there are too many furriners. And as I said, we don't lack them in India either. The best thing that happened for us was when the BJP won the elections. A few massacres here and there and then its back to a stable liberal mandate. Most Indians cannot stomach a society where people are killed for being different.

Bombay became Mumbai, the Anglo-Indians sold their cottages and moved into gated apartment communities, the "colonies" started laying down conditions for tenants [no nonvegetarians please] and we started having a curfew on weekends.
