Leo, So the web changed something about you, how so ? It hasn't created new interests but you have changed in some way. Yes there are. The good, bad and ugly of it. But they were there before the web as well. It's a question. It relates to the idea that you would see something that you found to be intoxicating and that you wanted or needed to see more and more of and that you didn't realize would be so exciting. It doesn't have to be sexual.
Do you think the internet allows it/them to be more prevalent though? On another matter, I also find buying things I would feel much more uncomfortable buying in a shop easier online. I travel a lot more now because it's easier to buy and find cheap deals. I found a man I'd quite like to spend a lot of years finding out more about too.

In the gains i wouldn't necessarily agree with (c). I'd agree that (d)(e)and (f) have been stengthened but I think (c) is far too vague to comment. Let's look at what institutions I have had faith in: education, governments, families, economic systems, religions and people or groups that I have social interactions with. Well, that would be no. None of my faith in (if there was any in the first place) those have been shattered. I still beleive in a fundamental goodness of my peers, I perhaps think electronic postmodenity has made me more aware of the views of my peers, but that's not really my faith being shattered, it's that I think the electronic age has brought about it a mask some people hide behind, or use to justify allow aspects of themselves to go unchecked.

Yes it gives them a window to the world. The guy that flashed someone at the corner could be on here right now. They could be doing all sorts of other things, let you mind imagine what and with us right now. Thats why it scares the crap out of me for kids. There are definetly some trades offs. I agree about the purchases. I pretty much only buy my wifes gifts online. I find I can save money, don't have to wait in line and avoid in some cases the embarassment. that people are truly the same everywhere. if it wasn't for culture and language a japnese would feel right at home in iceland for example. my interests have always been the same. there are only two things i have found to be intoxicating, booze and women.
I was five years old when Apple formed; I was 10 years old and had my first computer- an Apple IIe which I knew how to strip down into a pile of parts. I grew up at the very end of the world without computers- the last of a generation for history to record... "the cave man-turned computer-man". The world around me has changed A LOT since I was a kid. I grew up in a world without food or drug safety seals- think about that. 1996 and the opening of the Internet was an historical day- incredible amounts of irrelevant information was now at my fingertips; The Internet was born. I grew up during "Computer Inflation"- where the number of users expanded exponentially and the raw possibilities for the Internet was infinite. We are nearing the end of Inflation and about to settle down within the next several years to define the Internet as a tool- the ultimate tool. The Internet is evolving at an exponential rate and within the next 25 years will become an all-in-one, everything tool that does everything- an IPhone times a thousand.... the sum of human knowledge in your pocket. Think about that- a device that does everything. I am often drawn to the film "Minority Report" because in one generation, the world will become a virtual living thing unlike what we live today. Gone are the trips into the forest to get lost- today we're all GPS-navigated. You're asking what the web changed about me? Forget me- how has the web changed human civilization! I was not believing in any Gods, now I believe we humans can be more inventive and interesting than anything in the universe... And even without knowing the rest of the universe.
Here is a minor list...how the internet has changed me: -Made me dislike religion -Informed me about the world -Helped me keep in touch with friends -Gave me an additional source of information -Helped me meet new friends -Porn -Gave me a lot of life advice -Has made me more of a capitalist -Made me better at drums and guitar -Helped me waste my time -Helped me spend time on forums -Allowed me to go out of character and play devils advocate -I have read really good books, and amazing music that I would probably not have heard of unless there was internet
I seriously think I would be a VERY different person without the internet. Much more influenced by public opinion and TV. The internet really opened my mind.
One would have to be made of stone to be on the web for any period of time and not be influenced by it in one way or another.
