Many videos of UFOs/flying saucers show objects doing "impossible maneuvers," such as 90 degree angles at speeds ranging in the thousands of miles per hour. Fakes?

Or perhaps the government was developing the airlift saucer to cover up the momentum synthesis crafts which may run on a completely different functionality.

Or maybe "momentum synthesis crafts" are equally fictitious.

Who knows, I kicked off this thread as a kinda hypothetical talk on how a saucer might be a good shape for a warp-driven vehicle, as opposed to something goofy looking, like, everything in Star Trek (please don't hurt me, fellow trekkies, but c'mon, the enterprise looks ungainly, no way around it!).

It's cool this turned into a talk on government-related UFOs and such. I doubt we have a "momentum synthesis" thing yet (a.k.a. warp drive?), but a round-wing vehicle might have merit as a stealth design.

One off the many feats a stealth vehicle must pull off is to reflect as little radar ping as possible back to the radar range of interest. If the aircraft were oriented such that any contiguous surface was perpendicular to the radar ping's direction of origin, that radar is more clearly reflected. To break up these surfaces, curvature can be used. To break up any visibility from a straight leading edge, curving the front of the wing might break the reflection. Therefore, a wing with broadly curved edges, like a circular wing, might just have merit here, since little contiguous surface would be exposed to a radar for any orientation.

Then again, anyone who really knows the nitty-gritty on stealth stuff can't talk about it, so all I can do is speculate.

The reason why it's saucers dates back to the first report that started the whole UFO craze, where a UFO was described as moving "like a saucer skipping across the water". This was misinterpreted to mean that the UFO was saucer-shaped, and things quickly took off from there.

The reason they're saucer shaped is 'cos a cup-shaped craft would just look stoopid!

One theory holds that the reason many UFOs are saucer shaped and also spheroid shaped is because they are not built to be aerodynamic, they are supposedly built to be electrodynamic.

Since high voltages are held better in sphere shaped objects, the high frequency supposedly accesses the frequency of the electrons and neutrons rotating around the nucleus cores of all atomic matter.

That theory also places into mind that since all matter is integrally connected to electrons, neutrons and protons, that momentum is somehow also associated with high frequency static electric charges...

    Hence the term "momentum synthesis"

    diode-man, now THAT's what I'm talkin about!

The idea's a neat one, although I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it. There much research behind the idea?

I was going to say something along the lines of this, but could not find the right way to say it so I didnt post anything. I think you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Another reason for the saucer shape, perhaps? Same cross section from any direction.

Ball lightning is something which happens, but it does not always mean it is just a ball of energy.
