Or, of course, Draqon started a thread in a bid for attention and waited for the replies to give him an opportunity to renege.

Humans will always justify themselves by any means available. Draqon was in a win/win situation the moment he typed some words in here about his diet. His out depended entirely upon the input from others.

This was option 3.
"Draqon says absolutely nothing about his diet until he either succeeded or failed. If he failed, he need say nothing. If he succeeded, he could post pictures of his new physique and bask in the adulation he craves."

 

That is the most sensible option if you think you'll probably fail, and don't think external pressure is going to pull you through.
So the Option 3 is really "Don't even start thinking about the diet"
