Hmm.. I somewhat agree. But this is also from a human point of view.
I think humans in general are too quick to call on their own interest. Squash a bug because it's buzzing around irritates you..

Is it irrational to catch a bullet for someone you love, or think is too important to die ?
I think a fair point can be made that assigning value at all is irrational.

It's also true that only looking after your own interests in the short term is often disadvantageous in the long run.

 

Agreed. I'd say that, objectively, the right to live is nonexistent.
From nature's (biological) point of view a human is worth less than any other living thing on this planet (excluding pets and livestock etc.).

Yeah, I laugh at people who say they are gonna raise their kid in a non-sexist gender free way. Well, when they have a son, let me see him in a dress.

 

Indirect influences, expectations and peer pressures come in from all sides--society shapes people just as much as parents. It's all very well for the Jesuits to say 'give me the child until the age of seven, and I'll give you the adult', but consider all the other influences that are coming upon the child (especially these days, with all the paraphanalia with which we insist on surrounding ourselves), and you can see that society has a fairly large helping in raising a child, whether the intrusion is welcome or not.

 

What does having a tea party have to do with raising them gender free? I don't want my kids to be gender free. Little boys can enjoy having tea parties too can't they?

I don't know what you're talking about. If he prefers Barbie to GI Joe then what so bad about that? I organized a tea party for the kids I look after, boys and girls. They got to dress up, play pretend and drink tea and eat cookies. I don't see why it has to be gender specific. They all had a blast. The girls dressed up as princesses or sorceresses (and one pirate) and the boys were everything from princes to knights to pirates (and a tax collector

). I had so much fun with them. That's why I want to play it with my future kids regardless of gender. I would want my kids to identify with a gender. I was just trying to get the thread slightly back on topic.

 

I think if the kid's showing a real preference for opposite gender stuff in all things, s/he needs "the rules" explained to him. A boy wearing a dress outside the house is going to take a LOT of flack, and he needs to be aware.

I also think the parents have to investigate the possibility their child is transexual, and be as sensitive to that as they can.
