    But regarding larger animals..
    It is a fact that animals can become depressed. They can then stop trying to survive. I would call that suicide as they don't really have the means to commit active suicide.

    Of course they don't know that they're going to die, that would imply they are self aware. The tiny ganglion that serves as a brain in an insect could never support that level of mental activity.

    yes, they get depressed. They get sad. But I don't think they knowingly kill themselves. I don't think they knowingly do something so that they purposely die. Its just a result.

    How do I know animals don't purposely kill themselves? How do I know animals don't commit suicide. Well, because one has never done it.
    As soon as a suicide note is found, I will reverse my position. I will not accept a dog suicide note if there is a cat living in the house though.
