No, you tried to bullshit me about co2 scrubbers.

Noob, why is it a joint project? Could it be the recognition by NASA, that Space Station Alpha, (later called 'freedom') was not feasible using purely US technology? But that a joint venture, with the USSR, borrowing Mir technology, could work? The ISS is Mir#2!

Largely, it was the Soviet Union scaring the shit out of the USA with it's technical superiority. First Satellite, first ICBM, makes a nation paranoid.

The USA, but what has that got to do with Space Programs?

Er, Germany. It was the V2, noob.

What the fuck are you talking about? Mir was in space for 15 years, and holds the record for being constantly inhabited for eight. Nobody therefore spent ten years there. Who is 'you' btw? I'm not Russian.

Exactly. It's perfect for servicing the ISS. BTW, the most powerful rocket ever built? Russian!

No kid, you, with your lack of experience, and wild claims are. You suffer from a nationalistic streak that blinds you to the truth. Try and get over that.

Dragon, that's total bullshit. Oli has debunked you, but I also know that the guy that trained Helen Sharman, a female British Astronaut, favours the Sturmanskie. There's a picture of him wearing one on the wall next to her space suit in the museum where the suit is kept!

Again, you prove you know nothing.

    Absolutely it's a fake.
I mean, the image is only from the German supplier's website:
    http://www.poljot24.de/blog/uploaded_images/2210-747151.jpg

Everyone knows that the main supplier uses photos of fake products to advertise the real thing.

Are you planning on becoming even more stupid, because if so I suggest you start writing down instructions on how to breathe before you forget how to do that.

No you didn't get caught, you made a stupid assumption.
Based on the fact that you lived in Russia until you were 7 years old and now consider yourself an expert on all things Russian.

So you didn't bother to read my post?
    Or even think?
That link was to the SUPPLIER in Germany, not the manufacturer.
You know, the way you can find, say, Mercedes Benz main suppliers in the USA.
Or are they fake Mercs being sold?

Of course you didn't, because you're an idiot.

I am not an idiot Oli, but I do however have issues with seeing everything, I sometimes skip over what is typed to answer faster.

Anyways why USA? we are talking here about Germany...does it not have fake production? What I am saying is that the Soviet Union had another set of watches and not shturmoviki which actually means storm troopers, which is related to the sea, not space. So why would cosmonauts wear such watches is beyond me. Also if this is a Soviet like watch it should have a kpss logo on it at least. I am saying it is fake because I only assume original to be made in the factory by company that designed it, I consider the watch fake if some other company bought the rights to making these watches and is moreover located in another country alltogether. Where is patriotism in that?

So you'd rather just type a response, any response, than a correct one?
    That's idiocy.

It was a counter example: would a licensed supplier in a country different from the country of design/ manufacture show fakes on its own website?

    Wrong.

    Wrong.
Unless, of course, you want to go off and complain to Sergey Vladimirovich Ilyushin, you know, the guy responsible for the Sturmovik aeroplane.
More correctly Штурмовик translates as "assaulter".

Because it's simply the name of the watch.

Because the product is licensed by the designer maybe?
And the designer (in Russia) gets money for it?

    It's apparent is it?
All posted by Phlog, the anti-Russian guy.

Draq your problem is that you tend to say the first thing that comes into your head.
And then compound it by trying to back up the original unfounded assertion, instead of simply saying "D'oh! My bad".

The chinese and russians will most likely land on Mars first followed by India, Pakistan, North Korea and Iran............The U.S. will never get there, because landing on the moon again will be their first prioity.

There exists a common urban legend claiming that the Americans spent $11 million developing the Space Pen, and the Russians used a pencil. In fact, NASA programs have used pencils (for example a 1965 order of mechanical pencil) but because of the danger that a broken-off pencil tip poses in zero gravity and the flammable nature of the wood present in pencils a better solution was needed.

NASA never approached Paul Fisher to develop a pen, nor did Fisher receive any government funding for the pen's development. Fisher invented it independently, and then asked NASA to try it. After the introduction of the AG7 Space Pen, both the American and Soviet (later Russian) space agencies adopted it. Previously both the Russian and American astronauts used grease pencils and plastic slates.

That would obviously be a legend, as the lunar rover only cost ~$1m to develop.

The pen cost ~$40k iirc. Which was still a lot of money.

Oh Dragon, some Russian history for you (from the anti-Russian guy (btw, just because I think you are an asshole, doesn't mean I think all Russians are. Far from it; I've worked with absolute genii that were Russian, people you could never aspire to be))

Poljot, formerly 'the 1st Moscow Watch Factory' renamed in honour of Comrade Gagarin's Historical space flight.

Vostok, formerly '2nd Moscow Watch Factory', renamed when the factory was relocated to the East.

I own a Poljot, (an example I linked), and a Vostok Amphibia.

Both factoies are modern Russian success stories, orignally suffering post perestroika, as their own label digital watches could not compete with cheaper imports, they then concentrated on making mechanical watches, seeing the prices they commanded as a niche market in the West. Poljot and Vostok watches are quite highly regarded amongst watch collectots, the quality being excellent for the price.

My 'Amphibia' cost me £30, and it's one of my favourite watches (I currently have 12 watches, none flashy or expensive, just different watches for different uses and dress codes.)

    Hey Dragon,
I don't know much about all this space stuff but do find it interesting none the less.My question is how many countries are involved with the space station? Also is it considered a success thus far? I'm asking cause if the station is thus far a success couldn't the planning and eventual trip to Mars have a much higher degree chance of success and we get to that point quicker if many countries were involved? Thanks.

Def. X-Man2! The more countries are involved in space, the higher the success is. Just look at the development of ISS, it has grown to include so many countries which actively utilize the station's modules. A total of 16 countries thus far...of which most important are the USA, Russia, Japan, European Space Agency, Canada, Brazil...

ISS is def. a success! It has commited itself to an outstanding number of experiments as well as testing of a Life Support System and all the health related issues. ISS is beyond the success we could have dreamed off. If Mars is to be conquered it will take a cooperation of all the countries to make it a reality.

The countries that will define the future and will exist in space many hundreds of years to come:
