So you would not teach your children to take precautions to protect themselves from the vile behaviour of others? You'll never accompany your 4 year old to the toilet, because you shouldn't have to capitulate to all of those child molesters?

It's a social venue. It's there for everyone, not for a certain group of louts. They don't own it.

Sometimes louts monopolize particular clubs and bars. Find a different one with fewer louts.

What the fuck does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

A four year old needs to be protected and learn how to handle himself/herself. There are places an adult woman should be able to go without being groped. VI needs to know how to get the fuckers to stop, and I advised on that, but that doesn't mean she shouldn't get to go.

What you're saying is akin to me saying I shouldn't take my child anywhere because s/he might be exposed to a child molester. No, I'll just watch out for my kid and let him/her experience life. When s/he's old enough, s/he'll be able to fend for himself/herself.

Discussions of rights divorced from obligation (for example, how a drunk person is obliged to act, or even better, how an environment of full of drunk men will oblige themselves to act at 2am in the morning) frequently turn out to be impractical.

Nah I just get the bouncer to look after me. I know him well, so he knows it's not me starting trouble. He's about 6'4, so people don't tend to start any crap while he's in the area..

But in any case, I would still refuse to go elsewhere. They don't own that nightclub.

Turn that around the other way. Can I act however I want then wave that excuse around?

I had a massive sensory overload attack (ASD related thing...you don't really want to know) while at that nightclub. I got so agitated, for a while I couldn't even take my friends hugging me or stroking my hair to calm me down. I thought I was going to just lose control and really hurt someone if they pushed me or knocked against me again. Did you see me hurt anyone? Nope. I got out of there instead. If I can deal with that the right way, they can damn well take control of their own drunkenness and not behave like fucking louts.

    hehe

    not at all

not even drunk men have uniform rights divorced from issues of obligation (probably explains why they are in a club at 2am for a start)

Hence you face different obligational issues to drunk men

Which is worse to have to control:

Being drunk and having the random split second urge to grab a girl's body

    or

Being so agitated and overloaded by the noise, the shouting, the crowding and the people touching you that you feel like you're having a seizure while still awake and you can scarcely control your urge to punch the next person who pushes you in the face??

I don't like that sort of environment either, I hate being crushed in by people and overwhelmed by people and cigarette smoke. Sadly that is the environment of many clubs and bars, especially on Friday night. Again, if you don't like that environment, you should stay away.

This is the best advice I've heard in this thread so far.
All nightclubs aren't like that. Neither are all men.

I could say the same thing about going to nightclubs in the ghetto, and complaining about the shootings/stabbings. There's nothing to analyze about those places really. It's simply a matter of seedy clubs. You aren't missing anything if you don't go, and you're not bolstering "social oppression" if you don't participate..... you're just not hanging around a bunch of idiots.

I dealt with it fine until I started to get hypoglycemic and tired, then EVERYTHING got to me all at once.

When you take an individual, and you can take an environment, you can determine how one is obliged.

It is not that all obligations are equal (even if one rants about equal rights till one is blue in the face)

I know that, but, if I can deal with a raging overload attack the right way, like an adult, they should be able to do the same with their chosen drunkenness.

Not so because not all individuals are obligated uniformly

(for instance the ability of alcohol to impair judgment is so well documented that drunk drivers don't enjoy the same (legal) rights as sober drivers)

Isn't there a responsibility to either
    A) learn how to handle their drink or
    B) not drink so much at all?

So a self inflicted state of impairment isn't a reason to control yourself, but a sensory overload attack that you can't do anything about is?
