what the fuck is wrong with young men?

I used to get pawed at when I was younger. A lot of it is based on what guys think they can get away with. If you're nervous and seem vulnerable, they're like vultures. When you're more confident and comfortable, it rarely seems to happen. Until then, it's pretty hard to be confident, so what I used to do when a guy was annoying me is say, "Hey, I'm meeting up with my boyfriend in awhile, and I don't want a pissing contest. You really need to step off," in a firm but nice tone.

Oh, I wasn't bitching at you. I was more or less bitching at Max who seems to think that women who go to nightclubs are going because they like the attention.

Considering that Baron and VI are both in North America, it's safe to make that assumption.

Baron isn't. And I thought VI was in British Columbia.

How did they usually react after that?

Left me alone. Had it gone further, I would have asked someone to escort me to my car after pointing out the scuzz.

I'm glad you mention that. Because I have discussed this with several girls before, concerning the way they brush guys off. They will make all kinds of excuses to get guys to leave them alone.
I ask them, 'why not just tell them the truth? why not just tell them, 'no thanks. i'm not interested.''?
They say, 'because the guy keeps on'. 'the guy gets all 'cmon baby. take a chance, etc.''
And that's when I tell them, 'well its then that you have carte blanche permission to be as big of a bitch as you want to get rid of him. he didn't take no for an answer the first time, so he deserves no courtesy after that.'

'but I dont' like being that way' she says.
I reply, 'well no one else likes a woman being your way...the way of making up sugar coated bullshit in order to save someone's feelings when you're really trying to spare your own, by making them feel bad. they're gunna feel bad regardless so why not be honest about it?'
We'd rather be ineffective than deceived.

Assuming the guy is not a scuzz, being honest works. When you're young I think you're just more sympathetic. Also, it's pretty desirable not to get grabbed walking through a parking lot with some guy feeling entitled to rape you because you told Big Boy Bob to shove off and just let you alone.

If it happened to me now, I'd likely say that I wasn't interested and if he followed up still, fuck putting myself at risk. Any guy who follows initial rejection up probably has issues.

The classic meat market here in Nashville is a club filled with well dressed cologne wearing jocks, and women showing lots of skin. The men are always asinine, the music is always shitty overplayed top 40 radio-pop, the booze sucks, and the chances of seeing (or getting into) a fist fight are high. The most telling sign that you've entered a meat market is if you see any shirtless men on the dance floor. I've never been to any other club (besides gay clubs and mosh pits) where men dance shirtless. There also tend to be lots of women wearing fake tans LOL.

The two most popular asshole types here are the military guys, and the people with a "west coast rap music" mentality. There are a also few blue collor types out for a night on the town.
I think the only way a woman (who doesn't want to be approached or harassed) can survive a meat market is to walk in holding hands with a gorilla. Otherwise than that, they should be avoided at all costs.

If I were to guess what is wrong with the young men at these places, I'd say it was an issue of culture. I don't think there are any fundamental flaws in the psyche of male youths or anything. For example, I've been to Mexican night clubs where it is extremely important to be polite, and dancing with other people is just dancing (it doesn't mean anything).

    Good to know.
Maybe I was thinking since Idle Mind is in BC and VI is also in to mtb downhilling, I incorrectly associated that.

Being honest does work. You and I know that but I don't think many women (or people for that matter) ever got that memo.

A pistol, stun gun, pepper spray and a situational awareness will often prevent something like that from happening.
I've been out in shady places and once had a shady looking guy coming towards me. I didn't feel right and when he got about 30 feet from me (and I knew he was coming towards me), I yelled, 'hey, that's close enough.' he stopped for a second. I said, 'sorry, but you have no business with me and I have no business with you.' He kept walking and said 'hey man, can you hel..' I stopped him in mid sentence. Pulled my shirt up and showed him the pistol in the holster with my hand over it and said, 'I told you, that's close enough.' His eyes got big and said, 'sorry man. it's cool.' and quickly turned and walked off in a different direction, quickly.
Had I not been paying attention, he could have been right up on me. Now he may have just been a bum asking for change, but he also could have had a knife or other weapon coming over to mug me. Fuck that.
Generally, would be muggers/theives/robbers/rapists, will not come after someone who has their head up and looking around. When that happens, you can see people approach you from far off and have plenty of reaction time. If you're walking in a full parking lot, walk in the middle of the lanes, so someone can't just ambush you from between cars.

Most of the time, yes. I always carry a can of mace and if it's night and I'm alone, it's in my hand.

I agree, although I advise anyone, especially a woman, to get someone to walk her to her car if she can.
