    They don't.

Consider: are the people who you think are most happy actively trying to maintain that happiness? Are they trying to become more happy? What do you suppose would make them happy?

Is contentment happiness or just another way of accepting things you have no further means of controlling?

People, in my opinion, actively seek out ways to be unhappy for it is neither state which they seek, but the constant moving from the one to the other.

What do you think? Is there a point at which you would be happy enough to not seek to be/have more, wherein that happiness will not become mere contentment?

Doing what is natural without predeterminations or expectations.

That is where entertainment comes in.

By not comprehending reality, many pay for entertainment to create a scenario of enjoyment. eg...gambling

    Exactly what this thread is.

The valuation of 'things' is from the attachment of need to actions or pursuits. eg...... got a pile of money; fun to get more

    Greatest happiness is from appreciation.

Why don't people enjoy being sad?

They do. You ever see a group of chicks voluntarily watch a chick flick that they know is going to be sad/make them cry?

That is simply nonsense. Most of the time people are in a state of calm, mellow and subdued just going about their daily lives. That is a naturally neutral state of being, then something comes along to get them sad or happy. The news is full of unhappy shit and most people watch it so that tends to make people feel unhappy during the news. They never turn the crap off but let it be absorbed like good sheepeople.

    That is simply nonsense.
Most of the time people are in a state of agitation, irritable, grouchy, judgemental & condemning, itching for any "reason" to fight (physically, verbally or whatever). People get upset over little things as much as, if not more than, big things.
I don't know if it's biological or growing up in this environment or both but most people seem as if they cannot handle peace.
When TV news programs are a bit more positive than normal, people phone & email complaints.

Exactly. While life does have its ups and downs, it's mostly uneventful for most people. Daily grind and same ole same ole.

When it's uneventful, most people are compelled to make it eventful.

Do you have any facts to back up your claim?

The people I know are not like that at all, it must just be the people that you surround yourself with. Are you always trying to be making shit happen to your own daily life, like what?

There are a lot of people like that... it also is popularly depicted through soap operas and dramas on TV, people enjoy seeing things happen. It might be too far to take traffic accidents as one, but curiosity is a big human characteristic. Because of this, if our lives are boring, we tend to find excitement and drama in people around us (or like some people invoke or start it, sometimes subconsciously).
Just like high school drama, work places have drama too. People who are bored with routine and the same ol same ol everyday start to create drama and gossip between people, to keep their lives exciting, if not to participate in it.

Just because you don't see any doesn't mean there isn't any going on around you. People are good at hiding things.

Yep. People who voluntarily have children (i.e. women who got pregnant who wanted to get pregnant at the time). You think your life won't be more eventful with children in it?

I didn't even know someone would want proof of this.... its so abundant. The proof is all around you, if you don't see it you aren't looking; that or you are just being oblivious and ignorant of human nature.

Its my experience that if you are happy, it makes some people feel resentful towards you.

As soon as you're depressed they feel better about themselves. Weird.

Yes. People are jealous of happiness for some odd reason, especially people who can't obtain it themselves.

I don't surround myself with people.

I comment on how most people are so you think that's how I am???

Look around. Many people you know may not be that way or may not be perceived that way by you but it is obvious most people are that way.

Tell the truth and watch how people treat you.

    I experience that every day.
How can people treat you badly for telling the truth when you don't express it clearly enough???

yep. I married him. When things are going good he has a strange fear that its just the calm before the storm and he doesn't enjoy it. He deals with stress better than calm.
