Who would win out of Senior High General Grand Master High Councilor Yoda and Emperor Darth Sidious. Yoda is strong in the Light Side and Palpatine is strong in the Dark. My main concern is that many of you might refer to his virtual defeat (refering to Yoda) when Palpatine exhibeted Sith Lightning, but if you watch Star Wars: Clone Wars the cartoon you will see that Yoda is stronger in the Force in the cartoon than he is in the movie, so I want you guys who view this thread and vote on who you think will win but also on which is canon Yoda being strong in the Force as in the cartoon, or one who struggles in telekinesis as displayed in the movies?

Palpatine was shown capable in the EU of conjuring up a force storm capable of shredding an Eclipse Class Super Star Destroyer to pieces.

Yoda has no such offensive power owing to his Light Jedi style. He doesn't have the skill and sorcery of Palpatine.

    Palpatine wins this one easily.

What if Yoda turned to the Dark Side as shown in the book, Dark Rendezvous.

He'll still have to study tons of lore like Palpatine has. You don't just become God by turning to the DS.

I'm sure Yoda is fully aware of a lot of the Sith Holocrons as he is aware of all other history concerning the struggles between the sith and jedi. Knowledge giving to you via holocrons came endow ultimate power.

    Forceman:

Yoda is terrified of the Dark Side. He is not going to be researching Sith techniques in holocrons. Moreover, Palpatine has plenty of lore and holocrons which are not part of the archives. Things which even the Jedi are not aware of. They had no idea of Darth Pelagius "the Wise" supposedly being able to create life from the Force, for instance.

Run to Degobah, run to Degobah

I would think the question answered by Yoda's retreat to Degobah.

indeed. in the duel between the emperor and yoda in the third movie he handled himself alright though. he absorbed that other dude's lightning. i usually get the feeling with yoda his display of strength is only what's necessary. if he was fully motivated i'd bet on yoda.

Uh, didn't this fight already happen? Yoda had to run for it and was lucky to get out alive.

yoda seems too peace loving to really commit to a fight, so i don't think that's an accurate representation of his potential. i maintain my earlier position that yoda isn't trying hard enough. he's just listening to the force and its all like 'don't worry, im the force, i'll sort it out later. chill dude'.

mace windu bested the emperor in a duel, and yoda's saber skills are pretty good. to what extent did the emperor let him win? he did dispatch the other jedis in about 5 seconds lol, but there wasn't any measure of their skills given. i dunno why mace led them to that slaughter really, prolly cos it sells movie tickets.

Given how quickly the emperor killed the other jedi masters who came to arrest him, it seems likely that he was letting windu win, or at least appear to win. It's possible that if it started to look like anakin really wasn't going to step in save him, he would have stopped faking weakness and simply killed windu. Of course, it's also possible that he really was losing and was very lucky that anakin decided to do anything.
They probably just didn't have any idea what they were up against. How many thousands of years had it been since any of the jedi had even seen a sith lord, let alone fought one? He probably figured "Eh, we're all jedi masters, three against one should be pretty safe..." When papatine said things like "You have no idea of the power of the dark side!" to the jedi, there was probably a lot of truth in that.

i've heard it said that windu is the most powerful warrior amongst the jedi, at least in the cartoons he's the only one who fucks grievous up. however, the emperor demonstrates a lot of foresight, giving anakin dreams and turning him into his apprentice. generally i'd lean towards the emperor masterminding everything, though i'd definitely concede he may have found windu challenging.

were the others masters? were they on the high council too? i remember hearing within the extended star wars universe that the sith was a race which died out. is the emperor really sith? cos that would give him extra street cred.

as for 'you have no idea of the power of the dark side' i don't know whether to ignore it as villain talk or take it seriously. anakin says 'you underestimate my power' right before he has like 6 limbs sabered off. something to consider though.

whats your opinion on my theories on yoda? the prophecy said that anakin will bring balance to the force, is the force guiding yoda in accordance with this? did the force guide yoda in his 'defeat'? was it necessary that the emperor be occupied at that point? in theory the light side's not so much about kicking ass really, at least not at yoda's level. look at what obi-wan did despite having bested anakin before.

My personal view is that the jedi were the ones who had unbalanced the force by nearly exterminating the darkside force users and training virtually every force user in the galaxy to be light-side. Sort of a yin and yang thing...the light side is calm, emotionally detached, and selfless, while the dark side is fierce, passionate, and selfish. Anakin brought balance back by helping kill most of the jedi. Before Akakin there were tons of jedi and only 2 or so sith, after anakin there were 2 jedi and 2 sith...sounds like a restoration of balance to me.

The arrogance of the jedi was in blindly assuming that restoring balance would be a good thing for them.

the way i see it anakin brings balance to the force when he kills the emperor, who is the last sith at that point. jedis are in balance with the force, its the dark side which causes imbalance. that explains how luke, who's supposedly uber powerful, is still around once balance is achieved. your view makes sense of the slaughtered jedi, but i'd argue it was unrelated to the prophecy. its possible the jedi's arrogance or zeal was leading towards the dark side though.

i don't think you've addressed much of the stuff in my last post, and i'm happy with one word answers lol, so it'd be cool if you have another look at that.

I'm pretty sure they showed the really freaky looking guy hanging around in the council chambers, but I'm not certain.
Technically the sith were an extinct race of darkside force users. The dark jedi who rules them were the "lords of the sith" or "sith lords" (even though they often weren't actually of the sith race themselves). I think eventually it go to where any powerful dark jedi could call himself a "dark lord of the sith". The title sort of lost meaning once there weren't any actual sith around anyway.
I guess maybe, but if the force wanted the emperor destroyed it would have made a hell of a lot more sense for the force to simply empower/motivate/whatever yoda into killing him in the council hall.

thanks for enlightening me as to the sith situation.

The force doesn't really work neatly like that though, otherwise imbalance would never have occurred. also its the emperor who motivates vader to pursue luke, which leads to vader's change of heart. with no emperor, vader might have remained evil = imbalance.
