I'm not sure I understand the purpose of ban week or whatever its called. Is this to give the mods more to do or less to do? Does this mean that if someone complains about someone else its an instant ban? What? Anyway I dislike the idea for the same reasons Oli outlined. This place doesn't warrent such heavy moderation, its not a school and we aren't children, this isnt a toddler-time playground where you have to protect from bruises and candy snatching, nor is it a place of rigorous scientific or intellectual discussion, if it were you would lose 98% of the members and probably all of its moderators. Its the internet, its words on a screen written by people we don't know. We share information, opinions, jokes and insults. Let's not make this place more complicated than it was ever intended to be. Its like the school monitor who suddenly think they have the most important job in the world.
If the person had the ability to learn, and wasn't just an obsessed woowoo, I'd agree with that somewhat... but circumstances as they are, I think it's the wrong direction entirely. Sometimes, addicts need to removed from their harmful situation, no matter how ill percieved their version of "harmful" is. But making the whole community change because one person is a problem is really just plain illogical. It's like locking everyone in their rooms because one person can't act normal. Taking away liberties because one person disagrees and has their panites in a bunch is really overreacting. Perhaps the overly sensitive soul could find somewhere else on the interwebs where they are nicer to him/her and don't cuss or insult each other. It's not like we're the only game going.
if any of my fellow sciforumites start mysteriously disappearing, i'll be forced to call the cops and file a missing persons report /frown
perhaps the community needs to get proactive during ztw boycott sci for the duration? sig all posts with a "fuck you all"? "kill, kill. kill the nazi mods?"
Why can't the mods simply ignore the silly complaints? Why can't the complainers ignore the bad language and insults if they don't know how to respond to them?
