Wouldn't it be incredibly noisy? And if the elevator is in the middle core, how do you get into your apartment?

The first spinning skyscraper with individually rotating floors will soon rise on the increasingly crowded shores of Dubai, alongside the world's tallest building "the Burj" (tower in Arabic), the only full-sized indoor ski-slope, and countless other man-made construction marvels or monstrosities, depending on your perspective.

The neighboring, rival emirate, Abu Dhabi, announced plans for two rotating buildings before Dubai unveiled plans for the Dynamic Architecture building, but this is the first tower whose floors will twist separately (unnoticed by occupants), changing its appearance every five minutes. More importantly, the Dynamic Architecture building is also the first luxury building to be produced almost entirely in a factory, apart from the concrete core, according to the Web site....

Someone should copy that thing and make a dildo from it, ever changing shapes and textures, what a orgasmic experiance women could have with it!

Nope, they're gonna' use bear grease on the rollers to help eliminate the noise. Takes a lot of bears to make that much grease, but who needs them fuckin' bears anyway.

The elevators take the residents up to the top, then they rappel down ropes to their balconies and then into their apartments. Pretty neat, huh? Live in a lovely building like that and get your exercise free of charge.

They already have dildoes like that! Where have you been?? I saw one like that in the late 70s in Denver. No, I didn't buy it, I was too afraid that she'd like it a lot better than my tiny, little pee-pee!! ...LOL!

    just teasin

so wouldn't one get a tad disoriented if the building were constantly in motion? I think there are kinds of motion sickness associated with that kind of slight movement.

Probably the core won't rotate. So, the elevator goes up and you step out onto a rotating floor. It wouldn't rotate at a huge rate near the centre.

ah, so there is a stationary landing, you walk to your very slowing rotating door and walk in.
    Thanks James!

Although few, if any of you, are architects or engineers, I can't help but wonder why no one has questioned things like water and sewer piping.

If everything is rotating around a single, stationary core, when apt 31 flushes the toilet, where does the shit go and how does it get there?

I know of no rotating pipe fittings that don't leak like a sieve. And worse, water under pressure would leak horrendously in fittings that could rotate.

good point Baron. How do you think they get around it?

Well, it ain't been built yet, so they ain't "around it" yet!

But knowing how things work in construction and buildings, my guess is that they're going to try some type of swivel connection. But there've been lots of such "non-rigid" types of connections designed that are not very reliable.

I would not want to live on one of the lower floors when the sewer connections fail, would you?

But just remember, this building hasn't been constructed yet, so.....?

There's lots of spinning floors, etc, and they're relatively easy if one throws enough money at them. But none that I know of have water supplies and sanitary sewer connections as the building in the OP has to have.

    Humor aside...

I've seen this a couple of times already. Some places are claiming its a hoax while others aren't. This only confuses the matter, but it is something I've noticed.

As I noted above, a dildo like that was around in mid-to-late 70s in Denver. Ain't nothin' new, and certainly not brilliant.

At least one of us can help you out on the architect and engineer front. You always sound like you need some help.

No way water services, coming or going, could be in rotating half of spinny building. Electricity not a slam dunk either. World's biggest slip rings. Go away. Ain't happening.

This is a hoax. In this present day of growing awareness of need for energy conservation, a building that would need a Gillian horsepower per minute just to be twirling pretty like a pirouetting ballerina in the sky is a delirium.

Structural formulation for such a Frankenstein building is nightmare raised to a power. Forget it. While a really big budget ( as in unbelievably big ) could cover the very high cost for a structure for such a freak building, the structure of the outer rotating half would be, verbatim, worth its weight in diamonds.

Much better to spend the Gillians of dollars on food for starving people, clothing for the naked, and, sensible buildings to house the homeless.

    Amen

I could see the water services etc. very possible, would require more piping, but it is possible.

Idealy would be to have a raised floor for all piping (and maybe ductwork) and bring the piping back to the core of the building, for each suite/unit.

A spinning skyscraper would pay: Big motor-generator at the core, buy and sell electricity for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ with the world's biggest best, safe, stable, and profitable kinetic battery. No blackouts around, for as long as she stands. RUN when she comes down, though (but when we stop pissing people off, that will become highly unlikely anyway, so relax and enjoy your money).

Its an intresting challenge building a spinning sky scraper but as i understand it their plan is to centralise all the parts into the main columb, runt he electricity using slip rings so its always in contact, and the plumbing will aparnetly use twisting fittings but the solutions they are using exactly are all under lock and key. For access everybody seems to be overestimating the speed of rotation it will most lickely be incredibly slow meaning you wont need to make a leap for your front door as it comes wizzing past as some people seem to be invisulising.
