I guess that our body works like a machine, say, like a car. If you 'use' it more, the life time is shorter, because the risks (of accident for car, of sexually transfer disease for human) are also higher.

Married men usually live longer but only because an unmarried male may tend to abuse themselves either by not taking care of themselves or worse. All things being equal i can see why less sex would make a person live longer. However it is some tradeoff, so you may live 5 or ten years longer.

The thing is that if you think that never having sex will lead to a longer life then i dont see how that is possible.

Also, this whole discussion is only based on the case of 1 person (the virgin who lives long). It's not like from some extensive surveys where correlation between sex and life time found in certain percent of population..

I'd like to live as long as possible, but hopefully not to become burden for anyone. There are so many interesting things in this world, even if I can just watch it in TV. Afterall, I've never really been in Irak or the moon!

The emergency room slang for it is "angel lust".

A death erection or terminal erection[1] is a post-mortem erection, technically a priapism, observed in the corpses of human males who have been executed, particularly by hanging.[2]

The very best way to die is die very, very fast! That way you won't suffer or feel anything when it happens! :itold:

I just love how when these stories come out. People put these old fogies on a pedestal and use them as an example of what one must do to live past 100. The "secret" is always different: eat carrots everyday, laugh everyday, or even be a 105 year old virgin.

There are three things that will increase one's chances of living long: make healthy choices, have great genes, and always have a reason to be alive everyday.

The third on the list is probably the most important. You will very VERY rarely find an idler to be living in their 100s. The human body deteriorates when there is no reason to grow to adapt. It's a survival tactic in a way... a waste of energy it is to support a strong body and mind when such isn't needed. When the body and mind deteriorate beyond a certain threshold, it dies.

The "youngest" old farts you see are those that do things. My 72 year old grandfather looks like shit because he smokes, drinks, and does nothing but sit in his car at a grocery store parking lot and listen to music.

Then I hear about Sheila Peltzer, 70 years old, hiking Mount Kilimanjaro. She come just 2,000 feet shy of the 19,200 feet summit. I heard of some guy that was 72 or so that hiked to the peak of the same mountain about 7 months after a knee placement surgery.

When I hear of stories like those, it only pains me to hear people like my parents complain they can't do something because they are old.

    "Let's go do [insert activity]."
    "I'm too tired."
"You're too tired because your body has no reason to be anything but tired."
    "And I am old."
"Because you don't take care of your body... the aging process is the body's deterioration in the presence of toxins. Quit smoking, quit drinking, drink more water, and get the blood pumping by getting off your ass."

Also, I cannot stand it how people attribute the effects of poor lifestyle choices as "part of the aging process." They can be 40 years old, have a simple brain fart, and think they are getting old. They get lazy and blame that on aging. My dad turns 50 this year. I told him how I did an 11 mile hike in 3 hours and all I got in response was "yea, I used to be like that when I was younger." And growing up, all I heard was "I am your future." He smokes, drinks, waits impatiently for Friday, and watches TV in his spare time... he has very little in terms of hobbies. In fact, he does exactly the same things that his father did... and he died in his early 60s. My father had a heart attack last year and I fear he'll die sooner than my grandfather did.

My point is to quit blaming "getting older" and do all that your body will allow you to do and when your body adapts, do more. Adaptation gives your body more leeway in terms of functioning.

why would you want to die fast? I mean after all pain is a lesson of life as well, why limit the lesson life has to give to us? Its the last thing there is to us, let us accept pain and understand it while dying, let us accept the meaning of why we were alive through suffering.

Why fear of what happens? We already went through life by far without fear.

I never said anything about fear of death, I said die quick because taking time to die costs lots of money to keep people alive in hospitals and nursing homes sometimes destroying families reserves in savings as well as their mental health. If you have never been through a family members dying days then you really do not understand what I am talking about. I have been through watching my mother die, which took over 5 years after her stroke, she couldn't walk, or talk well after that. She had to be bed ridden and I took care of her for the most part but did have a private nurse come in every other day with a nurses aid daily to change her. That costs allot of money and time. Although I did care for her my health as well was deteriorating along with hers. She eventually had 2 heart attacks and 2 more strokes which she finally succumbed to. I really do not think it is a great way to live if you cannot do anything but be in pain and suffer every minute of every day.

    these are all material issues...

We all view the pain and suffering by us and ourselves as some sort of unwanted event in our life as it ends. Meanwhile it should be viewed as the epitame of lesson of life.

You dont want to be dependent on others? than leave the hospital while you can and die slowly alone in the woods/park...to feel life as much as possible while you can. You say you dont think its worthwile to be feeling pain and not being able to do anything...what about memories? what about all the memories of life you lead?

to this world perhaps the lesson is nothing, but for us departing it is a gateway to the next.
