Why is it ok to discriminate against certain groups (specifically, young people)?

Because I've met quite a few teenagers who think they know it all.
Given similar/normal circumstances, how do you as an 18 year old think you know more about life and life's experiences than say someone my age (36) or older?
Given normal circumstances, a teenager is never going to be as mature as someone in their 30s or older. Why do you think that most(normal, sane minded) people don't date someone that is over a decade younger/older than them; because of the time during their life that they are at, and the maturity level.
Granted there are exceptions but I would normally not date a woman younger than 23 or 24; because of the maturity level, and the difference of where the girl is in her life and where I am in mine.
I even had that mentality for a little while when I was a teenager. Over the past two decades, I've come to realize exactly what little I did know.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but are you talking strictly about adults and their own kids or are you saying the public at large is the problem?

I think she's talking about the public at large. And if she is, I have noticed a bit of that trend as well.
I also think that maybe today's youth is getting smarter and smarter given today's technology and I also think they are a bit more beligerent and rebellious than previous generations. Adults tend to frown upon beligerent behavior from teens.

For the most part people only really care about discrimination when it is directed at them or their group. but of course we are human, we are weak, we have limitations...blah blah blah

This quote has been attributed to Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, Cicero, Hesiod, et al... the point is that this issue has been around a long time.

"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for
authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place
of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their
households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They
contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties
at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

    Some, not all.

No, of course not. I'm decades younger, my life experience is nowhere near yours. But life experience is not the only thing that matters. It's also what you learn from said experience. Some people are 50 or so and have seemingly learned nothing from life. I'm not trying to sound superior. Hell, I'm still confused about many things and could do with a few decades of maturing. But I hate how adults are automatically right no matter what.

One would assume so. But I have met quite a few adults who were very deficient, and quite a few young people who were very together. I'm not talking about 'exceptions to a rule', either. I'm talking about a lot of people I've met.
