I'm a big fan of the old XCOM games so was very pleasantly surprised to come across a fan-made remake that uses the quake engine recently.

    It's rather good

Ah, you said Quake and I got interested. It said 'turn based' and well, I prefer FPS.

Have you tried Quake Live yet?

No - not muc time for gaming ATM.

I'm surprised you've never heard of XCOM - very recently votedbest PC game of all time - not bad for a 15 year old strategy game with VGA graphics.

It used to be available for free download as abandonware but most site have taken it down now as it's been re-released commercially.

If you want to try it out I may be able to post a rapidshare link

If it was filed under 'turn based' or 'strategy' I just wouldn't have looked. I like fast, twitchy shoot 'em ups. 15 mins of mayhem, and I'm happy.

Do you remember a PS1 game called Disruptor? ( I think that was it) Very fun one person shooter that was down right cool with respect to bizarre graphics.

Another PS1 game I was enjoying at one time was called G-Police.

Blatant thread hijack. FPSs are good, but do not provide intellectual stimulation. I mean, I'd own you at Quake3, but it wouldn't be as satisfying as proving your inferiority at RTS or turn-based.

XCOM: TFTD = one of the best games ever. Scary; addictive; satisfying; interesting (when you play for the first time and start interrogating/discovering things).

You guys play Star control 2 fan remake? They didn't remake the whole game, but they added voices(lol the greys/greens are GAY), splash, it's really worth a replay. SC2 was my favorite game EVER. SciFI, adventure, even strategy wrapped up in a philosophical masterpiece.

Yep - not a bad game- still available for free download on abandonia, but you'll probably have to run uit out of dosbox
