The Moon: What is it's purpose?

What do you guys think of the so called 'pioneer anomaly'?

Here it is gravity of the sun and not the moon. afaik the moon does not have such an effect.

Does the moon have any energy forces at all or is it just a big rock? Perhaps in order to have the effects commonly associatedwith the moon some form of energy needs to be present.

No one ASAIK has an answer. If forced to guess, I would put my money on a net charge on the space craft (positive probably by UV ejection of skin electrons) and a net charge to the solar system, (negative, probably due to some of the lightest particles, i.e. electrons, getting solar system escape velocity in many scattering collisions.) but there may be strong counter arguments (probably are) to this simple speculation, I make from a firm foundation of ignorance about details.

Our current gravitational models only work for "short" distances. That's why we have invented the idea of dark matter and dark energy. They are the new cosmological constants used to fix our equations, rather than using observation and data to form better theories, as the scientific method suggests.

 

that may be true, but the current model of gravity works with undetectable error for all the years the planets have been observed accurately (not even a hint of error in the accumulated data.) Our model of gravity is certainly OK out to the pioneers. I.e. those spacecraft are still at very "short" distances from the sun.

Of course i should have been clearer on that. I used the word force but we can also look at is source.

The source of the energy force, other than simply gravity. Gravity alone is is not a definitive answer and now i am left wondering if the sun controls gravity in a much larger way than previously thought. Lets say a larger sphere of influence or perhaps the bold conclusion of all encompassing influence.

I have some links on another computer to demonstrate the reflective qualities of the moon and how it effects what happens on the earth. Obviously we have moon light but this light is still a direct result of the sun.

Can we consider this as an effect of radiosity?

To add to that, what do you guys htink the result would be if there were two moons equidistant and opposite to the sun?

What does this mean exactly?

So pluto has three moons and the Earth has one. For now i have to stand by my initial post. You know when you just have a feeling? I jsut think these moons have no effect.

To be honest, i think these 'moons' just happen to be rocks (big roudn rocks) in close vicinity to othe big round rocks.

The earth is a viable planet. The moon is reflects light onto the earth. It gets this light from the sun hitting its surface and bouncing off it onto the planet earth. Even still it is just so we can see at night, otherwise there would be complete darkness. Fine. IF the moon were closer to the earth it would reflect this ligth brighter, otoh, it would have the effect of blocking the sunlight (more than it does now, depending on where these objects are in their rotation, making the earth cooler\colder.

 

Hence the term lunatic. Of course that is folklore.

 

So what function can we say the moon provides?

We can say the sun is a boiler. What would you say the moon, if it provides a function, should be known as?

From the posts we can say: Tidemake, rotator. I would like this proven.

 

The moons purpose is to provide endless quantities of cheese.

 

Dont get me wrong, it is nice to look at. At night it lights our paths via diffusion.
