My dad ran out of food in on a trip once, and the only food at the cabin they came across was dog food. Better than starving, I guess.
I can get a 50 lb bag of dry dog or cat food for about $15. Could I live on it? How long could I live on it? I'm thinking it has to be missing something a human would need. Just crap outside okay
I think dog food would be better for humans, since dogs are omnivores, and cats are carnivores. Cat food would contain a higher percentage of protein than people need. I use Purina One, which claims to be natural, I doubt rotten meat is allowed to be used. Nothing wrong with chicken heads and feet.
Nothing wrong with chicken head I'm getting nasty mental images with that one Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!

you beat me to the punch there Phlog - although I thought it went further , that in the UK, the actual finished product had to be fit for human consumption.
uhh... my mind must really be in the gutter.. but thanks for the linkPlease Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
Thanks spidergoat!! awesome site. I wish I had known about it when I was trying out some marrow. I cooked it and it was awful. LOL awful offal. Anyways....I've never understood how people can eat shank, but then I don't even like chicken legs. In meat packing plants the shank becomes hamburger. The floors get slick with blood and fat so they throw down salt to keep people from slipping. That get scraped up periodically and tossed in a wheelbarrow. That get turned into pet food.
I did once see a guy interviewed on TV, and his job was 'Pet Food Taster'. I guess if they employ humans to taste the products for quality control, they must therefore be fit for human consumption. I should think all pet foodstuffs are, they aren't going to put rancid meats into their products and risk making the pet or the owner ill, there's too much exposure to law suits there.
Way back when I was a mine dog handler in Nam. While out in the jungle for weeks at a time we would crack open a can of dog food, mix a little salt with it and put it on crackers for a great snack. It was supposed to be 100% horsemeat but you never know. It tasted like freshly opened tuna. Of course we always made sure the dogs got plenty to eat and made sure to bury our food so it couldn't be found. Strange though, I sometimes feel like I have to wag my tail...smile.
I ate some dog food once Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! I ate a beef snackle or some such thing that tasted like beef... yum yum. I say go for it Orleander!! Why put off for tomorrow what you can eat today!
I never liked horse meat much. I've only eaten it raw - didn't think it had enough flavor even when dipped in soy. meh.... maybe it'd taste better cooked? kangaroo is yummy! emu.. so so
Dried pet food would be ok....the viscous stuf I'd probably vomit before I even put it in my mouth. By the way why is fetal tissue so high in hormones? What does it do if you ingest it?
Fetal tissue will be high in growth hormones. I haven't done any searches on the repercussions of eating it, but it may not be too bad in small amounts.
