'The Thing' 50's Scifi classic is as about as good as they come for suspense and the special effects are pretty darn good too.

How about the 70's scifi cult classic 'Laser Blast'? A good one to watch with a bottle of cheap wine sitting in front of you.
there were two other sci-fi space movies. One was about this 80's looking guy who cares about his plantations in space and when the rest of the crew decides to let the plantations burn in Jupiter's atmosphere to escape, he kills them but saves his garden. Than another film where a couple comes to a lost spaceship with a SOS signal, they come inside and find a man working there only later to find out that it is a robot.
as well as BABYLON 5 series I know its a series but a terrific series none-the-less there are discs you can get that are a prologue to the series I think
people can you please have some more imagination...I mean we all heard of Babylon 5, Star Trek, Star Wars, Dune...etc... these have been repeated over and over and over and over and over....and over again. I am getting really annoyed now, I mean take time to find something new, come on.
well thats because everyone saw it and heard about it like gazillion number of times. I swear, if someone will say, "oh I like BattleStar Galactica" its a nice space series...I will like really really be mad. ok.
of quality movies what's left , really otherwise you get into fantasy and horror ( how horror got into sci-fi is beyond me )
Saturn 3 Two alternative food researchers (Farrah Fawcett and Kirk Douglas) stationed in the rings off Saturn work in romantic and professional bliss until their perfect lives are disrupted by the intrusion of Benson (Harvey Keitel), sent to speed up the scientists’ work. But Fawcett’s looks and charm ensnare the captain, creating a tense threesome. Or is it foursome? Keitel’s homicidal and lusty robot, Hector, also falls for Fawcett, and when Fawcett spurns both Keitel and his robot, the two scientists find themselves running for their lives. Filmed in the years after George Lucas’s STAR WARS captured audience’s imaginations with its gutsy adventure, SATURN 3 doesn’t have the subtlety or nerve-ripping horror of Ridley Scott’s ALIEN but does use devices from ALIEN and other noteworthy films to create an outer-space thriller for sci-fi fans. Readers of Martin Amis will be interested to see the novelist’s skills displayed in his first screenplay. http://www.allmovieportal.com/m/1979_Saturn_3.html
