oh thats pretty cool. we got our current dog from the pound - they told us he was a hybrid beagle-chihuahua. when we took him to the vet though, he said it was actually a hybrid beagle-dachshund, no chihuahua in him...
I like GSDs, probably because I consider them oversized (but less agile) Dobermans with long hair and a tail.
I just think they look like sleeker, modern wolves. Plus they are actually DOGS. I feel sorry for small weird dogs. They're not meant to look like useless fluff balls. Humans did that to em. When did you last see a chihuahua in nature?

I wanted to vote for all the doggies in the world! Although you didn't even have all of them oh well, I chose the "Pit bull". They are the best dogs to be around at all times.

Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image! The German Shepherd with the long hair is mine. She is probably one of the best dogs I've ever had. German Shepherds are incredibly loyal and intelligent.
Best dog I ever met personally was a German Shepherd/Norwegian Elkhound cross. Collie/Shepherd crosses have a good reputation with me, also. Every one I've met. Border Terriers and Blue Heelers I've met have been good, on the small farms where I've met them. And a very nice Cardigan Corgi, same situation (handyman farm dog). And from brief acquaintance, wouldn't swear to it, but I know at least one Standard Poodle I wouldn't mind having around. The problem with Border Collies is they are smarter than you are, more alert, and in better shape - and when they get bored, watch out.
Speak for yourself. You must have only a two digit IQ then. They're not smarter. You just have to stay one step ahead of them. If you can't, then you probably shouldn't own a dog to begin with. While bred for different tasks, I'll put a Boxer and Doberman's intelligence right up there with a Border Collie. And if you want to include the Boxer's occasional staunch independend mindedness, which can cause them to be a bit impish at times, I'll swear you'll have your hands more full with a Boxer than you will a Border Collie; plus with that mentality, it's a bit more difficult to train a Boxer. Don't get me wrong, Border Collies are one of my top ten. They are ridiculously intelligent, fairly easy to train, and obedient.

I put Boxer dog. But my favourite is the Rhodesian Ridgeback. We were offered one for free but we didn't have enough room in our house at the time.
Ours are all GSD crosses. Two (brothers from the same litter) are GSD/Lurcher crosses, they look like a more graceful, muscular doberman, but more handsome (one has won local fun dog competitions a couple of times in 'Most handsome Dog' category (one first, and one joint first with his brother, his bro bagging the joint 1st and a 3rd.)) They differ a lot, Zeus, is much bigger, at 80lbs, than his brother, Apollo, at about 63lbs. (and no, they weren't inspired by Magnum PI, my other half used to live in Greece.) Out other dog is a GSD/Border Collie mix. She's very hairy, making her look a lot bigger than she really is. She's about 56lbs, big for a Collie, and on the small side for a GSD. She's got a lot of Collie personality, ie, everything is fascinating to her, and she's a good guard dog, letting out a little grumble or low woof when next door's cat appears in our garden. She's nearly all black too, which makes her look a little fearsome. All are rescues.
No boxer I've met. Fun personality, not the deepest thinkers. I knew a guy who tried breeding boxers with chows, looking for the boxer personality in a loyal guard dog, something protective but trustworthy around children. It worked, I think, but the dogs scared people - they looked like hyenas. I've suspected the only thing wrong with Dobermans was the common Doberman owner (and the short hair, in the northland) - they seem to start out as puppies kind of skittish and hyper-sensitive, and need a steady owner with a lot of reassurance, instead of the posturing jerk with the choke collar that seems most attracted to the breed image. One of the saddest stories in dog world, is what has happened to that breed under the benighted influence of the crazed powers that blight the Show Dog scene. I'm told that there are still working, competent, functional Irish Setters in Ireland. I hope so. I watched one get lost at the end of its leash once, trying to follow a mouse. I would bet some of them can't learn their own names. Scary omen: I met a German Shepherd three years ago that had suffered the same genetic lobotomy as the Irish Setters - the same purposeless motion, idle barking, gnat-sized attention span, blank gaze, general air of nobody home. Very spooky, in that breed. What's a GSD?
