we need a electronics forum. http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=88377 http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=83375 http://www.sciforums.com/showthread.php?t=88206
I am fine with it being in general science category. the general science area has slowed down since I first started
Suggestion I'm sure will be noted. (I'm having to generate a rather unique suggestion log for future reference) however if you have any others keep them coming.
I second the notion of an electronics subform. I put myself forward to look after it. I suggest that 'comparative religion' should be merged with 'religion'.
Have you ever taken a course in electronics anywhere as yet? If not, perhaps that is a very good way to understand the general ideas of just how things in the electronic medium work. You really should at least talk to experts at your local electronics store where you live to get their advice about what your problem might be with whatever it is you are having a problem with. You could also ask questions here as well, as someone has already suggested.
No i never did take a course. One project i am working on is fixing an old set of headphones i found. Here are the details: 1. the plug at the end is a mini plug. 2. the connection is broken, only one side works 3. took off connection and exposed the wires 4. went to get replacement at radio shack HERE - http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103990 5. touched wires to all the possible terminals on replacement plug 6. no sound Someone please help me. if it helps the headphones are Sennheiser and have three or four wires at the end. dont have them right in front of me so i dont have the colors.
Could be that the wires are not the problem in the mini plug but the headphones ear piece is bad. Have you tried opening the side up that isn't working? If the wires are are soldered correctly then the new mini plug should be OK. Sometime the input where the mini plig attaches has a problem as well, have you checked it out ?
I am certain it is the pug becuase the plug was bent where the connection is made from cord to mini plug. if i bend it back and forth it worked on both sides but only temporarily. when i stripped it away to free it Sennheiser has a unique plug design and you cannot just look at it becuse wires go right down into mini plug itself. obviously automated design and very good one, if it worked.
describe the wire coming from the phones. can it be separated like a toaster or lamp cord, or is it one wire?
thanks. here are the details: Sennheiser HD 280 pro the wires are: black red blue white the plug to replace it has three places where i can connect the wires. one higher than the other and is a stereo plug, cannot find a link for reference but it is from radio shack and is gold.
No. those are the colors of the wires after i stripped away the rubber. in the original they went straight down into the plug so it was impossible to tell what was waht.
the major problem here is that i don't know what kind of setup you have. the wires from the phones can be grouped in sets of two wires with with two conductors inside or as a single wire with either 3 or 4 conductors inside. coupled with that is there are two different methods for making the wires. the first is to use separate wires for each conductor, the second uses a "coaxial" arrangement where the wires are run as a single cable with the wires nested inside each other separated by insulation. the "coaxial" arrangement is the hardest for amateurs to work with. here is an article on how to strip coax cable. the article was written for TV type of cable but the method will apply to your setup if it's coax. the major problem you will have is exerting too much force on the blade when cutting because the wires are really thin with phones. http://www.swhowto.com/CoaxStrip.htm
