A mac is a top of the line PC with the best hardware used to keep it stable and because that is what people pay for. The software you use with it is designed to run on their OS and if you want to use mac software, which is very good, then you get a mac. What is the big deal?

Windows does have many problems. It is a bloated OS. Light hacks of XP have been released which are great. I think the best bet so far is isntalling the EeePC version of XP into your uber rig. Yes it sucks that you have to sit there and tweak Windows or get a light version because its so bloated, but the benefits outwiegh having Macs.

Years ago, Macs were better for audio/video only because their hardware was much more advanced. Windows had zero apps for hardware that advanced. Now, IBMPC hardware can actually be built more powerful than the limits of Apple hardware. A/V Production is now best done on PC.

Power Apps have a way better interface on PC with their Mac counterparts only second rated. Web design, video, audio, photoshop, and 3D modeling/animation actually utilize multiple mouse buttons way better. Mac versions of everything are always only second to Windows versions.

OS for Mac is nice and featureful. But with all their great features, they still have not learned to incorporate rightclick. Or even the scroller. I can't even imagine trying to do Excel without any right clock features

I think the best would be a new system which is a cross between Windows and Mac. Something with a first rate user interface, and light on resources without extra unecessary features.

All Apple products are overpriced. Their hardware is not up to par with hardware that costs much less. Especially when it comes to their Ipod line.

You can do both in Mac. I don't even bother with a mouse.

Use two fingers for a right click and slide a finger or press space to scroll. You can also do CTRL+click for a right click.

I like XP too but i really like the fact that OSX has no registry so you can take a program and just drag the folder to any partition and it will still work.

The new mac's have right mouse buttons and the scroll wheel scrolls in every direction which is something i dont think can be done on a PC. The mac mouse scroll wheel is pretty flimsy though an i prefer to use a track ball with it.

For me, i like using XP, OSX and Linux so it doesnt matter that much. If you are a gamer then obviously you would get a PC.

This is wrong on every level. People pay for the OS and the Apple support. Mac hardware is typically average and always substandard compared to what you can get in a similarly priced PC.

I have looked inside the mac pro and the mainboard is comparable to a high end Xeon board like the best Supermicro boards. Plus it has features that you wont find in a PC, especially a home built one.

For one thing there are no visible cables and the drive bays are cool because all you do is push a hard drive into the slot.

What are you talking about? Mac Pro motherboards ARE Xeon boards and I can easily put a system together with the same specs and a lower price. The feature you're talking about isn't a Mac exclusive hardware feature. There are cases sold that come with a hot swap board for your SATA devices.

How come ? I'm pretty sure the PC doesn't get slower, and the Mac doesn't get faster..
Perhaps it is because you have since installed all sorts of NEW software on your PC, and none on your Mac because there just isn't any ?

Obviously they are Xeon boards, they would have to be. You have never seen the inside of a mac pro have you?

I have built hundreds of high end pc's for people who use Maya and 3D studio max or video editing so i know a good mainboard by looking at one. I didnt say you cannot build a PC equal to a mac but you are going to pay a premium for the parts either way.

I have, plenty of times, which is why I still think you were wrong earlier.

I wouldn't trust anyone who makes a judgment on a motherboard's quality just by looking at it.

Of course you're going to be paying a high price anyway since workstations are more expensive than your average user's PC, but I'm telling you that if you built a server using the same or equivalent hardware found in a Mac Pro, it would be significantly cheaper.

Frankly I would have to have a very very good reason to go back to PC. Like brain damage.

Bullshit. Total bullshit. Your eyes can tell a good mobo? Please. A good layer of varnish to make it super shiny for the Mac fashion victims is all it takes to appeal.

That registry thing is the only reason I would ever get a Mac. It's the worst thing about Windows. If you can transfer files into the filesystem, and run all programs without having to do anything beyond that, things are so much easier. You can do that to an extent in Windows, but many major apps parasite themselves into the OS, and you have to go WAY out of your way in tweaking to deal with resource parasites.

Right. You definitely do not get what you pay for with Macs. Macs have pricing is an aspect of marketing, and so is advertising. Prices are set for highest profit. Not highest quality. Even an independent system builder can build a better system for cheaper. Most apple products are not as great as they are made out to be. There are far superior products in ever case of Apple's line for far cheaper.

Yes. Because i know the chips that are on them and the design. A Xeon board can range from $200 to over $600.

Generally any windows app that uses a setup program accesses the registry. Windows registry is not really a bad idea but with a mac you can take the most sophisticated program and drop it anywhere in the file system and it will run.

But like i said i like all the OS's just a matter of the programs they will run.

What version of Windows on what hardware? If you are not comparing the different operating systems on identical hardware, the comparison is meaningless.

    @Sam; don't use iTunes, it's a resource hog.
Any other music player would be *much* better.

Programmes on windows don't *have* to use the registry, it's just that many programmers choose to use it. The registry is *supposed* to be only for OS wide settings only.
