Why? It's a common reference quite many people can relate to. I see many cartoons and such, even how to play levels of video games, all over YouTube. Books may be a better source of info in general. TV is too much about entertainment, and not enough about the "work" of education. The world's smartest people don't make movies, they write books. But if I was to make more references to books, BTW I do read quite a lot, more people would say, Huh? Never having even heard of that particular book. And will they go buy the book, just because I recommended or referenced it? Movies and cartoons actually do have quite many useful ideas about how the future might be like.
You're better off stating real life facts than referencing film and cartoons, or any other work of fiction.
I haven't read the other thread (yet?). Nothing wrong with using movies, stories, etc to help get across an idea. People do get much misinformation that way tho. 1 example is the "discussion" of cloning in another thread. I love science fiction but sometimes it's absurd. 1111

We should START with getting all our news from cartoons. I think the evening news should be done in cartoon form. It would make it all nicer to watch.

CSI & such should be more realistic in what they can & cannot do & what conclusions should come from it unless there's an intentional science fiction element. But people who don't realize those shows are fiction & can't be relied on to be completely accurate shouldn't be on a jury. Police, prosecutors & testifying experts also do much harm by giving the intentional impression that crime investigation is infallible. Aldrin is full of it. Star Trek doesn't make anyone think anything. Such shows & books have inspired many to study science. 1111
