I hereby challenge James R. to a formal debate on Earth Expansion.

    All opinions must be referenced.

Let's see how "scientific" you are.

Just an observation: if you type in "Is Earth expanding" to google, it shows 2.6 million results...that may not mean anything...but interesting though....

An interesting observation if one considers that "plate tectonics" only has 1.1 million results.

So you guys doing this or what? I think geologyrocks may be a better choice though OIM, he seems knowledgeable on current theories.

James R. is a plate tectonics believer so he should be able to debate the issues. Sadly, it remains to be seen whether he is scientific, brave, or honest enough to accept the challenge as thus far he has deliberately ignored this thread.

Why don't the 4 of us debate? Us on one side, and them on the other?

Dammit. Thought this was going to be a pro/con debate on colonizing other planets. If you want his attention, you could report yourself, he's admin.

    OIM:

Provisionally, I will accept your proposal, but we need to clarify a few things first.

What precise topic do you suggest? Would "Is the Earth expanding?" be a suitable topic statement?

You will, of course, argue the affirmative, and I will argue the negative.

Shall we use standard rules, as set out in the sticky thread?

Assuming that you want a one-on-one debate, and you agree with all of the above, you can start a Debate thread, and open your argument.

If you wish to vary any of the above suggestions, or bring more people into the debate, then we will need to negotiate further.

A suggestion to OIM: You may want to recruit a member who has strong background in the mathematics and physics of the expansion of space itself. (not me)

And not someone who says people are getting fat because....just kidding....

    And we watch....

Sounds good. I would like to add one addition to the rules, always try to support opinions with links or references.

Makes no difference to me. Entirely up to you. Shall we ask if others would like to participate or just keep it simple?

There is no math or physics supporting plate tectonics so a strong background in math and physics won't be required.

    OIM:

I'm happy to keep it simple. Just you and me.

Ok, go ahead and start the debate thread. It's 4 posts each in total, right?

My op is going to be longer than 1500 words but after that I'll limit it to under 1500 ok?

How much longer than 1500 words?

    Not a cut-and-paste from elsewhere, I hope.

Significantly longer, if it's too long I can edit it down...
