Why is it that women, in general, like to wear high heels, but don't want to be tall?

Whenever I've had a female friend who was over average height - with a few exceptions - she hated it.

So why do they like wearing high heels?? I've actually heard women/girls say they didn't like being tall because it meant they couldn't wear high heels. Why would you want artificial height that renders you unable to walk properly, but not want actual height?

Because they don't want men to be put off. Most women don't like to be men who are shorter than they are, but I'm just guessing. I'm taller than the average height for women, but not drastically enough to make that much of a difference if I wear heels. I also only date really tall men.

because...women want to look elegant, and that means they want long legs which shows their elegance and power, heels symbolize power, so even if she is not as tall she got them heels and she has power allright.

or maybe its a sex thing...to show off her skirt higher so that she gets attention faster and more.

    Here's my take.
Heels make the leg and foot appear more attractive to men (and women). It gives the foot the illusion of being smaller than it is while pushing the calf up in a semi flexed state making the entire lower leg more shapely.

As for tall women not liking it, it's because it cuts down on the amount of possible mates. ( uh, you know what I mean, right?)

OMG! you are right! If a woman is too tall, the small dudes will be too shy to come and be interest in mating with her. !

because high heels elongate the legs, tense up the calf muscles and make you look elegant

leg/body ratio is important for elegance, short legs look stupid

Fuck you Varda! I have a long spine and short legs!

Edit: Varda, did you post that specifically to have a go at me? Could you not just openly call me unfeminine or something and get it over with? I am well used to that shit. Hey, I'm having a conversation with my enlarged clitoris right now.

I always thought high heels looked kind of animalistic, because a thin spiky heel suggests a dew claw. Anyone else think so?

Haha, like she didn't know. Still a bitch varda, I love it.

I think the point of heels is more to prop up the hindquarters of a female and present them to the public. Also to make the girl jiggle more when she walks. It works, really well.
I'm not a tall bitch fiend (far from it) and I'm not nuts for long legs (don't get any ideas VI, you're still a freak), but heels work for me because they're like this little display case presenting feminine sexuality.
I love the way girls trot around on them like show ponies, showing off their meaty little bodies, it's adorable.

I don't really care what females wear because I care more about WHO they are more that WHAT they wear.

Well I wear them (this time of yr boots) under my jeans a lot. Since I am short and the pants I buy are usually too long, it makes the length perfect. Since the pant length goes almost to the bottom of the boot, my legs appear a lot longer.

Buying pants are such a pain in the ass for me. I can't buy the petite jeans because I find them too short. When I buy regular jeans they are always too long. Some pants are just ridicolous. When I hold them up to me, I would have to have my waist above my boobs.

Why not take them to a tailor and have them hemmed to the length you want or you hem them yourself? I do that myself because I can't find the right length jeans either.

I can't find pants either. Regular is too short and long rarely comes in small enough sizes. It's crazy I know the models in the pictures wear the same size pants I do, so why doesn't the store carry those sizes if their advertising them.

I do hem some pants. I have pants that are perfect length I wear with casual shoes (flats) or runners. The longer ones I wear with the higher shoes/boots and they are the perfect length. I also like looking taller sometimes.
