Why banning anyway?

A lot of the moderators here actually provoke people then ban them. Maybe a bit more politeness on the part of those who see a problem would be more helpful. I don't always do my part myself, but I'm not a moderator either. When I do my part, it's like "please" and then a request to settle down or something like that, without some kind of stinging remark.

    Maybe that would work better.

Growing irritation at someone tends to feed itself and if that is happening, as in a recent thread about the idea of banning a particular member, perhaps the people who are irritated need to look at what they are doing and saying. Maybe they should just let go. Some of us are living in each other's hip pockets too much anyway so taking some time off would be better than going at each other's throats even if the little twit deserves it.

Yeah, like Fraggle Rocker making religion-bashing threats to so censor me, for daring to mention how my religious views might somehow color my views on a very religious topic, of "overpopulation." But what's the alternative? Hipocrasy? Claim to believe one thing, but do as if I don't believe?

    Are we really overpopulated?

I host several forums of my own, and I generally prefer to see almost nobody, if anybody, be banned. Haven't people heard of concepts such as "free speech" and self-governance, or self-control? As a "far-right" conservative, I tend to be far more open-minded than some people seem to like to give me credit for.

It isn't right when they play games and ban people who play the same game back at them.

Or these kinds of games where they calling lying just a "trick".

As far as Avatar getting thrown out of the MOD SQUAD, I think it is bullshit.
There are mods that have done far worse on a continuous basis.

Yeah, I didn't think that was fair at all. Does anyone know the reasoning for demoting him?

He questioned the establishment, and was consequently rubbed out. That's what we're dealing with here, believe it or not.

Avatar did a fine job at moderation.

I suspect the reason why Carico was banned was that he was too intelligent, logical, scientific, and persuasive for the Atheist fundamentalists to allow to share views and arguments.

See, this is why we can't have nice things.

Plazma Inferno! explained why Avatar was demoted. Avatar chose to publicise an issue that had arisen among the moderators, which should have been dealt with by the moderators and administrators as a group. Plazma was primarily concerned that Avatar would disclose the content of other discussions among the moderators.

As for Carico, just read the Ban List. The reason for his ban was for "preaching". Next, read the rules of the Religion forum, which are in a sticky thread clear for all to read in the Religion forum. In particular, check out the section labelled, clearly, "Preaching".

Note also that originally Carico was banned for 7 days. I reduced his/her ban to 3 days.

Members are reminded in general that to find out the reason for somebody's banning, you need only to click on the "Ban List", where reasons are clearly given.

And you say all that as though it's not extremely shady and seedy.

    Lou Natic:

While you may be riled that you are not privy to everything that happens on sciforums, that is neither here nor there. Like it or not, moderators need to be able to discuss issues that arise in moderation of the forum privately as a group.

If you feel the need to know everything that happens, I suggest you start your own forum, where you can be king of the mountain.

Ok, just never criticise the australian government again on anything or I will suggest you start your own country.
Something tells me you'd be nauseated by "australia: Love it or leave it" singlets on yobos with australian flag capes, my question then is- where do you get off?

    Lou Natic:

I'm really not sure what you're getting at now.

You seem to be expressing just a generalised anger of some sort.

Much as I love bantering with you, I'm not really in the mood right now to act as a foil for your grumbles.

    Sorry.

It's a shame: Avatar was one of the great moderators on this website, in the sense that he never threatened to ban members who disagreed with him on key issues. Such qualities in a moderator are severely lacking nowadays. With Avatar gone, the moderating team is considerably closer to wholesale fascism. Seriously, it is no coincidence that so many diverse individuals are dissatisfied with this drunken orgy known as the "forum leaders".

If so, where's the refugee forum that we should plan on fleeing to?

One great thing about the internet, tyrannical "kings" can soon find themselves with no subjects left to lord over. Should we cry or laugh?

Yeah, play dumb james. I'll put it in plain english- you're a stinking fascist and a hypocrite.
    Get it?

And kadark and cheski are right, we can expect a mass genocide of independent thinkers, now that they've culled anyone from the mod team who might have a conscience.

I agree, guys. James is trying to slap the ol' "anti-Semitic" label on me, via PM. It's a very unnerving thought, fueled by memories of Baron Max and the conspiracy to ban his ass to the most remote, fringe regions of the Internet. Can you believe they discuss such perverted actions in their secretive, unmoderated forum? They are probably on the finishing stages of banning me as I type this very message, probably for a very predictable reason, such as "anti-Semitism". About that: it seems everything is anti-Semitic nowadays. "Hey, why didn't you buy that household item from that Jewish-owned store, over yonder? Are you some kind of an anti-Semite?" Or, "Hey, did you just scratch your ass while a Jew was talking? That's borderline anti-Semitic, you know." Or, "Did you just say 'the Jews?' You can't put the word "the" in front of the word "Jews"; that's anti-Semitic!"

This is getting ridiculous. Once the moderators execute the independent thinkers, they can drink freely from the blood of those who remain.
