Why Macs Suck BALLS

I honestly don't experience any of these Windows errors Mac/Linux advocates constantly whine about. All of my Windows PCs at home (2 laptops, 3 desktops) do not ever crash, running various applications including TV and virtual machines. Oh sure, I might get the very spaced out ocassion where one application bombs, but it's hardly crippling, and does not mean MacOS is immune to application errors.

That said, I've also used and supported Apple machines. They USED to have the edge on processing power, however they've sold out to Intel...so IMO Apple is now a glorified and cute PC. If you're the kind of person that likes an attractive machine (like me lol), Dell has some nice options, as does building your own (research MoTD folks).

Using the MacOS on a MacBook Pro was a little less than intuitive, buuut livable. Right now, Apple plays on customers' desire for elitism...in the hopes that they don't notice that in terms of application availability, Windows wins hands down.

I always advise users to think carefully before getting an Apple machine...they're expensive for a very 'niche' box.

I agree that Vista is not unstable or broken. What consumers are having trouble with it the lack of or limited support for many legacy software titles.

It is really dependent on the software you want to run but if you want to spend the money then i would say get a mac.

I really dont see the purpose of vista and right out of the box it seems like the interface is designed for dyslexics. i was surprised that ms would put out an os like that because i thought after Win95 they had learned their lesson.

I would like to know where the coding was done.

 

No it depends on what you are using it for. I use Mac because I can run 15 different applications smoothly without my computer freezing. Its quick, its effortless and it doesn't lose my data. I spent a lot of years rebooting Windows, formatting hard drives and re-installing [which takes about 100 hours, or at least feels like it!] to not recognise the difference. My Mac was ready to go to in less than an hour, its four years old and has never crashed, frozen, lost my data or given me a General Warning [ugh how I hated that blue screen!].

For an academic using multiple analytical programs, databases that go upto 3 GB, large spreadsheets and data analysis and graphical software and doing a lot of word processing, Windows totally sucks.

 

I find Macs annoying because I rarely use them and have to readjust myself whenever I have too. The files have different names than Windows so I get confused and tend to loose things a lot easier than I would if I was using a PC. But once you get into the swing of things it's just fine. I thought about getting a Mac when I started college, but they cost way too much. I'm not making or editing movies so I didn't see why it was worth the money? Do Macs last longer or something that makes them cost so much more? Or is it just the fact that only one company makes them?

Not if you're only using it for practical purposes. A few fancy doodads are nice like electric windows and locks and maybe a car that can play MP3. But if the $20,000 has all of that then why would I spend $40,000 more? I'm a starving college student I don't have enough money to pretend that I have status. Macs look nicer, but everything that I would ever do on it I can do with a PC so why fork over the ridiculous amount of money their asking for? My PC was expensive enough.

 

yeah, i guess it was a bad analogy because the top of the line PCs are about the same price as a mac. Plus the price of the new mac desktops includes a monitor that would be very expensive to get a similar one for PC. Still, if we are talking laptops i would take a macbook pro over any PC.

 

Some cars cost more just because of the badge on the front. For example, Saab and Vauxhall.

 

I wouldn't know, I've never personally owned a Mac I just use one at work sometimes. It works just fine no complaints. I just get confused on somethings because I'm not use to it, but that's all. I used to think my computer was going to explode or something because I had heard so many bad things about Vistas and when it got a virus I was sure this was confirming what everyone had said, but when it recovered itself all on it's own I was so impressed with it I will never complain about it again.

for me its a toss up between windows(xp) and linux(mandrake) linuux gives me control over every single aspect of the computer which is good when im trying to do a specific job, but when i just want a quick job that works well enough i prefer windows, i just have to tell it what i want done and it makes up the rest of it, sure the code is bloated and it runs slowly, but i dont have to spend 10 minutes fucking around to change between networks.

 

But was it the hardware or the software? The only way to be sure would be to set up an Apple machine to dual boot XP and the Mac OS, and run the software in both versions.

 

That's because (as has been mentioned in this thread several times now) Apple uses the exact same hardware as everyone else now. The difference between an Apple computer and a PC is the operating system.

 

Not really. I have a bloody great 3-button optical scroll mouse by GE that works great on PC. Not $20. More like $8.00.

Macs are one thing and only one thing. Gay. Real computer users use Windows. Maybe even Linux. I wouldn't even use a Mac for basic office stuff. There is no reason to use a Mac. Everything Macs can do, Windows can do better. I'm mostly referring to XP as I gave up on Vista a long time ago.

I'm contemplating on switching to Vista to take advantage of 64-bit processing and DX10. However, not sure if this is a good idea. I don't see any reason to use a Mac.

The problem is that Vista is a resource hog, plain and simple. You're paying a steep price for the minor benefits you obtain from DX10.

the only problems I have ever experienced with Vista is that Microsoft office 2007 wasn't compatable with the computers at school, which run 2005 (at least until this christmas).

It was a huge step up from my old computer, mainly because it doesn't randomly shut down with no warning. (my old computer had been about 7 years old when we got rid of it last summer.

 

They add up. At any given time, I run a browser, my mail application, messenger. Then when I am doing data analysis or writing or doing research, I need my spreadsheets [more than one], imaging programs [with several very large images], adobe acrobat [for pdfs], powerpoint, word and the statistical [SAS]and graphing [SigmaPlot] software. The database itself can reach 3 GB. Then there is the biometrics program. If I am listening to music that means iTunes is on as well. I have Yahoo widgets installed for weather and other updates and skype for when my brother pops in to say hi. Windows simply cannot handle all this.
