As far as I'm aware, all of those things can be configured or changed. If you use Windows, you really should be accustomed to that kind of thing, I would think.

I've never used a ma extensively, so I can't give verdict.

However, I found a picture that sums up popular opinions quite nicely.

    Above Pic IMO:
Linux: Hard to use, not for the uninitiated
Windows: Complex, but if you know what your doing; awesome
Mac: Sleek but pointless and irrelevant

Linux - Gets the job done best, but one slip and you're screwed.

Windows - Gets the job done well, little chance of messing up.

Mac - Doesn't get the job done, no chance of messing up.

These days, Linux is very simple to use. I challenge anyone to pick up a Hardy Heron live CD and just stick it in and boot up. The CD runs much slower, but it'll boot the operating system and give you the feel of what's possible. I sometimes boot the live CDs of other distros just to see how they are.

I installed Hardy Heron (Ubuntu) on my machine in just 20 minutes. From a completely off state to surfing the web with Open Office, Firefox 3.0, and a myriad of apps and games installed was only 20 minutes!

I've literally spent hours on Windows installs before having the ability to even surf the web and create office documents.

I can use a mac but i still hate it, the one button mouse and GUI of the OS annoy the shit out of me, thats probably because i grew up with windows. But I like Ubuntu best now, however I don't use it that often because running windows games on it is a pain in the ass. If I didn't play games so often I'd happily throw windows out of the window. O btw, windows vista is also a pain in the ass. I'll fully switch to ubuntu before i start using that piece of shit.

Linux comes with a catch too... a lot of bugs, in my experience, compared to windows. You also have to wait longer for new hardware to get supported. But if you're good with it, you can easily fix these issues...

I don't understand, what's the fuss. Use whatever works for you. I use both Linux and Windows, both for specifics purposes that they are suited for best.

I hear lots of people say the vista is a really bad computer I haven't noticed much difference between what it can do and what my old xp did, except it has more stuff on it. What makes it so bad? Just wondering.

I have to admit, they are better for video editing, and also Itunes and Ipods.

I would like to re-reference to the second link.

    The Laughing Man, very nice.

I just hope you aren't the real Laughing Man *laughs nervously*

Wow. How did I know that you were going to go against me???

You and I just can't get along, can we?

    very nice picture!

Might I save it for other uses?

I don't see why everyone hates Vista so much!?!?!?
I have been running Vista for a little over a year now, and the only problems I have had with it are the printer we had previously not being compatible with it (which is more a problem of the printer than the computer), and Microsoft Office 2007 not being compatible with the Microsoft Office 2005 programs that the computers at my school run (but their switching to '07 in December).

Likewise, I use Vista and have had next to no issues with it. The only notable issue I've had was that itunes caused my computer to crash! (yes I am sure it was itunes that caused the problem).

I really don't understand why some people loath Vista, sometimes without ever even having seen it.

Most of the Vista hate is just a matter of principle. It's not like Vista is a terrible OS, it just wasn't that much of an improvement over XP. Mostly it's to do with geek stuff, like built in DRM, bloat, increased use of resources and the questionable way that Microsoft handled the release. Stuff the average person either doesn't know about or has no interest in.

For me personally XP does just fine, there's nothing in Vista that would make me hurry to upgrade. Plus Litestep runs better in XP, and I can't live without it.

yeah you missed adding an actual picture of a mac so that we can see what one really looks like as opposed to sunday morning comic strip picture like examples.

For a site dedicated to discussion of fact, this thread sure does contain some pointless uninteresting shite subjective opinions. Use whatever works for you, for whatever purpose you use it for

Its still hard for new users to grasp, I'm speaking from the point of view, of a general, computer user. Not illiterate, but not too pro. I will look for it the next time I see a mac though.

I am a PC user and always have been.
I got my hands on a used MAC laptop years ago, and never even used it.
As was said here already, all the nonsense about MACs being better for video editing and whatnot USED to be true back when PC used to do 30 fps as opposed to MAC's 300+, but that ended about 5 years ago - no there is virtually no difference anymore.
I have about 8 computers (desktops, laptops and solid state) all are Windows. Even my phone runs Windows.
I have suppoerted Windows workstations, servers, laptops and software for a living for more than 10 years.

    That said...
All honest, side by side, benchmark review I have read lately puts MAC WAY ahead on performance.
MAC even runs Windows OS faster than PC's.
They are faster, more stable and have more integrated features.
They are honestly, objectively better machines.
Of course, when you consider the price of software and peripherals, you generally pay for that performance and stability. On the other hand, a PC that is somewhat comparable in features will likely cost you about the same (or more) as a MAC.
Plus, there are less software titles (but the software has all been thoroughyl vetted and will not screw up your computer).

Bottom line, MAC is a better machine, if you don't mind the limited software and you don't mind paying for quality and performance.

I didn't know they suck balls, now though. When was THAT feature added? I am DEFINITELY getting one now.
