I wear fashionable clothes for women who do care. I actually care more about what women think because they can make your life a virtual hell if they don't like you. I have to deal with more women on a daily basis so I try harder to impress them, because its important for all of my jobs that most women like me. I've never had a hard time getting men to like me so I really don't care if one guy I come across thinks I'm a whore. The opinions of men haven't done much to damage my reputation. It's usually other women, who excel at doing that. When I'm not working then I don't care as much, which is why I wear short shorts. But at work it's a whole 'nother ball game.

What percentage of your job performance is based on your clothing?

Where I come from the answer is Zero percent. I don't care if you're wearing a burka or you're buck ass neked fresh off a zebra, if you can do the work better, great.
The problem arises when it becomes a disruption.

Anyawy you're dodging the issue of the OP, WHY do women go on about such things?

It's easy to be critical of women dressing for women, it seems stupid that they don't dress for men instead, but when I think about it do guys really dress for women or men?
I wear jeans and t-shirts and skate shoes most of the time, or reebok/nike type sportswear when I'm doing physical activities, and I make all this cool more in a way that will make other guys think I'm cool, not women. Most of the clothes I wear reference things women know nothing about. Right now I'm wearing a buffalo bills cap and an element t-shirt, women don't know shit about either of those things.
Women like button up shirts and those stupid pointy shoes, or jackets over those stupid shirts, or those jeans with big absurd faded patches on the thighs, or even those extremely gay blouse shirts some guys wear these days, things that would make other guys think you are a faggot and I don't wear them mostly for that reason, out of respect for my fellow man.
I hate the guys that do, it's like they're sellouts, sluts even. They've succumbed to being what women want, like they have no self, they're just doing what it takes to impress women and get laid. It's sickening. They're not men, they're the bitches of bitches.
I think I finally get why most normal women I know hate "sexy women", the ones that dress slutty and dolled up with short skirts and a tonne of cleavage, the ones that giggle as their boobs slip out of the bikini top they're inexplicably wearing in public. I guess I've been blinded by my interest in catching a glimpse of their ass and tit meat, they really are fuckheads when you think about it.

I wear plain, blue jeans and a T-Shirt every day (except when i am working and have to wear "business casual attire").
I wear this because it is the lowest maintenance, most rugged, cheapest and most comfortable.
When I shop for jeans, I find a pair of Levis that fit comfortably, and buy 5 or 6 of the same pair.
I've tried other brands and off brands, but Levis last longest and give me the most for my buck.
    They last me for years.

Women are easily manipulatable. All you have to do is tell them what is self-liberating, and they will promptly do it (even if the things they're doing are truly self-degrading and humiliating). Most women don't care about anything except for how the opposite sex views them. With such a perverted mindset, it's unsurprising that so many women nowadays dress like sluts, even in their adolescence.

kadark??? Have you ever met a real woman? One that you weren't related to? Have you ever been on a date with a woman more than once?

Men are a HELL of a lot easier to manipulate. All my daughter has to do is cry and her dad is putty. All I have to do is say "ya wanna?".

These are the most common techniques...tears, temptation, and taunting.

As in..."Dont bother with the walkway honey...those paving stones are way too heavy for you."

Its amazing how many chores get done when I say "oh never mind. I'll do it myself"
He says that to me and I say "Thank You!"

Ack. I hate when men act like that. Though in fairness they rarely behave like that with me. I think they sense I'd take it as an insult.

That's not true, when you have clients to impress. Why do you think businesses always have pleasant looking if not pretty/handsome receptionists? No one wants to be greeted by someone in cut-off jeans a loose fitting shirt and flip-flops. It's unprofessional and makes your clients doubt your competency as a company. So when I work the front desk at the FBI headquarters I have to look professional. There's a dress code. When I'm working with the kids I wear comfortable clothes like jeans and even my shorts

. Because the kids don't care and I don't have to impress them, their parents sometimes, but nothing that a t-shirt won't take care of.
And I told you why. Sometimes women dress to attract attention from men (revealing clothes or whatever), but for the most part I think women (who care) dress to impress other women. Women don't pick out cute shirts for men really, it's more so that you can feel cute in whatever your wearing. At least that's what I do. Let me recant I shouldn't be speaking for all women. So that's just me. K

Indeed. Our clothes communicate, whether we realize it or not. If you look like you don't care what you look like, people are likely to unconsciously assume that your social skills are not very good. If you have a job where you have to deal with people, you'd better present the impression that you have good social skills, and that includes being willing to put some effort into your clothing. I'm an IT consultant and you'd better believe I dress consciously. I present a professorial sort of image because I want to influence people to believe my knowledge is good enough to pay for and not to waste my time arguing with it. When I play in my band on weekends I present a completely different image. I DO NOT get up on the bandstand in a t-shirt, faded jeans and worn out sneakers, and I have nothing but contempt for musicians who diss their audiences that way. People are paying good money and they have a right to a visual performance as well as musical. I might wear something silly, something retro or a necktie, but it's a job and I always dress for work because I'm a professional and it comes with the territory.
Women have been telling me that my entire life. They almost always dress for each other, not for men. Men just aren't that discerning, and we tend to go for the obvious and the sensational. Women look for subtlety. It's really not that hard to put on something that will make the impression you want to make on the women you're going to meet, and at the same time men will find it pleasant to look at. Fashion has evolved a lot in the last fifty years. These days there are plenty of women's suits that have a sexy flair.
Men in the upper echelons of business will warn you to be careful about how you dress your husband for work. They can tell whether a man picked out his own clothes, and they're not impressed with men who don't have enough assertiveness to say, "Thanks honey but I'd rather dress myself for this important meeting." If he's a real slob then by all means try to get him to look housebroken. But don't dress him to look or feel cute. Dress him like the big shots in his office dress. I'm not saying you have to be conservative in your choices, but dress him for work, not for a night out.

Have not read, nor will I, even a full page of this thread, so apologize if I am repeating, but think it improbable as the song I will quote part of was nearly forgotten in my youth. (I suspect it was a subtle protest by the still “in closets guys.”) All I can still remember goes as follows:

“Rubin, Rubin, I’ve been thinking: What a grand world this would be
If, all the women were transported, far beyond the Northern sea. …”

Perhaps someone good at searching can find the reminder?

I would walk around the streets naked if it was acceptable.
    I love being naked.

I see Mom's buying that kind of clothing for their daughters. Its in the children's section so they think 'why not' Parents want their children to be popular in school and some mis-guided women think that's the way to do it.

I read an article that said due to the down-turn in the economy parents aren't buying their kids as much clothing, so that's why the layering look is becoming popular. Switch up the layers and it a whole new outfit.

I see more of the layering look here than anything else.

I always wonder about that when I see some teenage goth, or a girl dressed like a complete whore, or a kid with all kinds of piercings. What the fuck are their parents thinking? So long as I'm paying the bills, no child of mine will dress like a freak or a slut. Do these parents not exercise any control whatsoever over their children?

What's wrong with goth clothes? Or piercings, for that matter? My mother let me get my lip and septum pierced aged 17. How exactly did that constitute being a bad parent and having no control over me?

Its ugly. Its a look, but its an "i'm a rebel" cookie cutter same as everyone else look. And its ugly.

I know some kids hide clothes in their school locker, but you would have to be a fairly oblivious parent to not pick up on it eventually.
And some parents would rather be their kid's friend and they think the kid can make their own choices. All the while forgetting kids make lousy choices.

Many parents are still driven by the same insecurities they were in public school which one of my favorite writers refers to as the "peer pressure cooker".

They obsessed with the acceptance of their "peers".

If all the soccer moms on the block are wearing a certain style or driving a certain car that's competition that cannot be ignored. Winning the appearance game wins you acceptance from the "appearance crowd".
They assume it's the same or worse for their kids in school and the cycle continues.
