Who here thinks it is belligerent, unethical, and mindless to let a 3 year old watch the first Jurrasic Park movie?

That is what my brother did with his child. Among other things. (like leave him in the high chair for hours unattended when he was young)

Were I a rich man I'd remove the child from his custody and adopt him myself.

Could be worse, he could expose the kid to Bugs Bunny cartoons, or God forbid the Three Stooges.

What exactly is Jurassic Park supposed to do to the kid? Indoctrinate him into liking movies that are long on visuals and short on story and character depth?

Jurassic park was the first movie that actually scared me and gave me nightmares, and my parents let me watch anything as long as it didn't have consentual sex in it.

That said, I don't really see what's wrong with kids getting scared and having nightmares, it's not going to make them into bad adults, unlike watching brutal and excessive rape scenes.

I watched Jurassic Park when it first came out. I think I was like 4 years old or something, but I loved it. Didn't scare me at all. The first and only movie that ever really scared me and gave me nightmares was IT (well it wasn't a movie, more like a mini-series) but I hate that clown and all clowns. I believe I watched it the same year as Jurassic Park. That gave me nightmares.

I think my oldest watched it when he was about 5. He didn't have nightmares or anything.
I think my other son might have even been 4, again no nightmares. They just thought it was really cool.

I think parents can generally tell what is going to upset or scare their kids. I mean if they were kids that got scared easily, I wouldn't have let them watch it.

I mean I took them to see the Dark Knight and my youngest is 7. I have heard ppl say that it is not for children to see at all. Both of them thought it was great.

I agree. I had a neighbor who let her 6 yr old son watch Chuckie. What the hell?!

There is a difference between being scared and terrified. But I guess some people think they are 'toughening' up their kids. When they are scared they tell them to quit being babies. Crappy parents don't realize that all that gore is real to a kid. They don't understand its just a movie.

I pretty much followed the ratings guidelines.

I think you have to know your kid. Some view the world much differently than others. Aside from the show IT, I wasn't a child who was easily frightened by movies. IT didn't so much frighten me as it gave nightmares later. I just hate clowns, but all my parents had to tell me was that the movie was just pretend and I never took it more serious than that. I love scary movies, and gore doesn't bother me either too much, except for that one scene in Mirrors. That got me I must admit.

So if you let a 3 yr old watch violence and gore, why not slap lipstick and heels on your 3 yr old daughter as well.
Why do that to a child?

My parents let me watch Jurassic Park because they knew I loved animal movies. They were right I loved it, except the bad part was that it took quite a bit of convincing for them to explain to me that the movie wasn't a documentary and (was made just for fun). I was/am addicted to anything scientific and the whole movie seemed logical to me. Jurassic Park was only rated pg-13 I think the goat being eaten was the most gruesome part. But as a Saturday morning animal show and discovery channel watcher, animals being eaten didn't phase me.

I'd never let a child below 10 watch that garbage. Men getting eaten. Lots of blood. Go ahead, defend the dumb-ass

That is why I let them watch it. They begged me to watch it. Whenever there has been something iffy I watch it first. There are a lot of movies they would like to watch now but after seeing them myself, I won't let them watch it.
I think I even skipped the part where he got eaten by the man, I can't remember for sure though. Sometimes I will let them watch something but skip over a bad part.

You can't bunch all kids together. My kids rarely ever got scared of anything.
You can't compare movies like Halloween,. Jeepers Creepers, Chucky to Jurrasic Park. It isn't the same thing.

Plus what if you don't have kids who get scared and have nightmares? You can't compare them to the ones that are ready to pee their pants over Disney cartoons.

Mine really want to watch South Park. I keep telling them no they aren't old enough yet. They tell me that other kids their age have been watching it for yrs but I really don't care. The language is too bad in my opinion.

It is up to the parents to decide what they want their child to watch. They know the child the best. They also know their intellectual, fear level which is different among kids.

I don't remember lots of blood but even so what harm could come from a three year old child watching Jurassic Park?
