Interesting proposal. I'm not sure if I would advocate militarizing schools, but I do think that military service (for a certain period of time) should be necessary for all able-bodied men eighteen years or older. Schools do need more discipline, though, which is why I can understand your viewpoint, Norsefire. I'm simply worried that perhaps mixing the two will take away from the academia. Kadark
OK but what if I thought it was wrong to alter who they are? You can be an individual, it's just that common ground necessary to be an individual within a society Huh?
Sure. And so is changing who they are, supposedly, as lib'rals would tell you That isn't a society. A society is made up of individuals, it is their interactions, and they therefore have common ground to stand on. It's why a people can call themselves whatever they are. If you have a bunch of people in one area ignoring each other, it is hardly a society.
So you go for the lesser of two evils, since you can always kill them later.... But NOT everyone should follow all the rules. There should be room for the complete mavericks.
OK so the same can be said for my idea. Everyone should follow certain basic rules. The "mavericks" are usually the people who are shunned in society.
Having kids put on military uniforms and march up and down the hallways is a waste of time. What we really need is to remove all the garbage. Computers. Junk food. Sports equipment. Musical instruments.
A military school has designed its pedagogy to produce military people. They recreate the culture of the military for the children. This is a bad idea for children who will not end up in military culture. The will have been socialized wrong. Workers in a factory, doctors, teachers, etc., do not need to have the kinds of relationships with superiors that soldiers do. As one example of how this is poor training for many careers.
I come from a military style school. We had corporal punishment where I had the living shit beaten out of me on a regular basis. We had to learn to march, we had to learn to shoot, and our school even had its own armoury.... The system produced a lot of really fucked up kids... but then.. it was Apartheid at the time. Militarizing a school is a really really stupid and dumb idea. Its creates some disgusting people. Whoever thought of this needs their ass kicked back to the stone age where it belongs. This inbred needs to get his head out of the 80`s, and stop trying to force their rather retarded, conservative and backwards way of doing things on more civilised folk.
You're only saying that because you've been brainwashed by Syria. If your empty mind had been born in China, it would have been filled (shallowly) with Chinese ideologues. All you have demonstrated here, is how shallow, gullible, and eager to follow someone else you are.
without instilling indoctrination, blind obedience, and resistance to change ?, sure no cons. There is an alternative however, Most countries have a cadet corps, such as the ROTC and the Cadet corps here in Australia. Some schools have them as compulsory for two years ,or another extra cirricular aspect is also complusory.
I agree with Challenger. There should be a cadet corps in schools. But entirely militarized schools are NOT a good idea. We need rules that are there for good reasons, not just discipline for the sake of discipline.
Yes, good reaction. I just realized how strange it is for him to be advocating that nationalism and patriotism IN GENERAL. It is as if he does not really understand these things. To be truly patriotic AND nationalistic you must think that patriots of other countries are overestimating their own countries. Not to speak of the wars this leads to. I wonder if he thinks Israeli children should be nationalistic and patriotic. And how he sees these qualities playing out in behavior.
His idea, apart from that it would result in bad education, would instigate conflicts in general. It's effectively driving a wedge between people, purposely..
I disagree, cadet corps should be entirely distinct from schools. Performance as a cadet should not get a kid any favours in school, and if the corps is part of the school, that cannot be avoided, you know the score, summer school interfering with cadet camp is grades aren't quite good enough, yadda yadda. Outside school though, kids should be free to join cadet corps if they so wish.
