Why do you think old people move to Florida? Because it has an aura of being exotic. Besides, with all those Cubans, you can hardly avoid ethnic food.
I never really figured why old folks like Florida so much, when the summer is just brutal. Why not South carolina with its mild winter or Tennessee? But definiately not because it is exotic. Actually, let's make it a thread...
They have air conditioning. You get used to the heat. Their metabolism isn't the same as young people, they need the heat. Like lizards.
So what they save money on heating (not being in the North), they spend it on AC, because they need it for 8 moths or so... Makes sense...
Many of them don't use the AC as much as you might expect. Land used to be cheap down there. They come from New York and New England, so they don't miss the winters.
and don't forget sympathy votes. How can you not feel bad for a man who's wife and baby daughter were killed and his two your sons injured, no matter how long ago it was.
