Oh wow... is that a suggestion of some kind of sacrifice?

That's some price to pay after more than three centuries of chattel slavery, the unpaid wages of which would amount to trillions of dollars by todays reckoning. If all that wealth had been invested in property and businesses, black Americans might well be the wealthiest ethnic group today, richer and more powerful even than the Jews.

So I made a mistake when I said above all else, I should have excepted the dollar, of course.

I mean, given the above all this Obama mania smacks of insincerity to say the least. It costs nothing to elect him, and since he will do exactly what big business tells him to, I'm struggling to understand exactly what the sacrifice being made is.

A black president, though, is a wonderful foil to deflect future demands of compensation and claims that America is 'racist'.

I admire such a Machiavellian maneuver from afar.

You could give Blacks the Sun and the moon, but they still wouldn't be richer and more powerful than the Jews.

I agree. It seems the selfless efforts of many prominent Black activists, both of yesterday and today, could be reduced to naught due to a Black president. After all, how can discrimination and racism exist in the United States against Blacks if a Black man is elected to the highest position in office? This one fact alone would deter justified Black activism, resentment, and anger nationwide.

Of course, Barack Obama is only half-Black, which is a point we shouldn't forget. Americans may consider themselves tolerant of all races for voting for Obama, but really, who are they trying to fool? If you put a fully Black man into this election, then it wouldn't matter how charismatic, experienced, knowledgeable, etc., that man was. Barack Obama "Black" and Kevin Garnett "Black" are worlds apart.

Is it a sacrifice? No, he's just a great candidate that happens to be black. He certainly wants American business to succeed, I don't know who doesn't. However, he and Biden fight for the working class, I believe that. The two interests are not mutually exclusive.

You know when I wrote that I didn't quite believe it, you've just confirmed my feelings.

    Indeed.

It seems that most of the time they do a good job of fooling themselves, whilst the rest of the world looks on incredulously.

Yes, had they been paid, they'd have wealth to rival that of migrant farm workers. And, like migrant farm workers, they'd be investing in stocks, bonds, and real estate. Right.

True. My estimates were very liberal.

Just suppose though a legal case was made, just out of interest how much do you think would constitute a reparation value per head?

Attempting to attach reparations for slavery to Obama is a dishonest smear. It as a blatant, flagrant lie. It is part of a Republican campaign strategy enabled by by liars with money and no honor or scruples, who are completely indifferent to the damage they do to the US as a country by putting that kind of money behind such tactics.

Any "reparations" that have anything to do with Obama would be the ones he himself would have some association with as President - such as the racially based thefts and embezzlements and cheats and legal injustices inflicted on black and red people by agencies of the US government during Obama's lifetime, some continuing today.

What is McCain's stance on the tens of thousands of black farmers cheated by the Agriculture department because they were black, the tens of thousands of red mineral rights holders cheated by the BIA because they were red, in the past thirty years ? Is McCain in favor of "reparations", or is he in favor of the US government cheating American citizens and getting away with it, while he was in the Senate ?

This seems rather an overreaction, almost an attempt to silence the debate?

Of course Obama is against reparations, didn't you read what I wrote? He wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in Hell otherwise.

White liberals love him precisely because he is black and makes no demands upon them. He's offering them a way out of their guilt - cost free.

Did the U.S. government miraculously spring into existence when Obama was born?

Or are you trying to sever any connection Obama has with his own people?

    McCain's a white man.

His responsibility is to his own people, nobody else.

DeepThought: "McCain's a white man. His responsibility is to his own people, nobody else."

What a perfectly racist expression. I pity anyone unfortunate enough to be raised to think of a particular race as one's people, or to think that people should be segregated on any social level by race or racial combinations. I'm grateful that "my people" (the people I grew up with, have relationships with, and identify with) come in all colors. I realize that my outlook has not been typically USAmerican, especially in the "Heartland". I'm amazed how US media and society largely considers Obama more black than white. To me, he's like I imagine most humans will increasingly be as the generations roll on: A mixture of races that is rendering racism ever more meaningless (but also rendering racist regressives more desperate on its way out of importance).

Why are liberals so afraid of black people?

Obama is black, and so are his children.

You seem to have a problem with that.

You make it clear that America will never give blacks the land or economic power to be self-determining.

But - more troubling than that - you will not tolerate their existence forever.

If you here predict a landslide from a McHurryCain and it comes to pass, then wait in your driveway November 5: You will be awarded a shiny new Hummer (hell, take the whole company).
