The militarization of schools

I myself do not see any problems; it would give discipline, encourage honorable and higher goals, encourage patriotic values, and shape good citizens. All it means is that the schools would operate militarily, but you'd still learn the same things, of course, and have choice after you go for higher education to leave a military school and go to a traditional university.

Why not? I see no cons.

There are already military schools here. If anyone wishes to send their kids to them they can. I think freedom of choice is a good thing and anyone who believes the same way you do has that opportunity. Let us keep that opportunity alive and well by having the choices available to all of the citizens instead of only one choice...yours.

Certain things aren't choices; and school is an extremely important time for a person, in shaping who they are. Therefore, it is in the best interest of the nation and the state to have a positive influence on the development of young minds, via the militarization of public schools.

What about the private schools or the religious schools are you going to mititarize them as well?

 

No, they'd be the "choices", and since they are private, it isn't the governments business. But for public schools, which are the majority, we should militarize them for the sake of the future.

 

For everyones sake we should leave them as they are. If, as I said, YOU want YOUR child to get a military style school then YOU send them to one that is available.

Public funding. Public, means state sponsored, therefore the state can and should militarize schools. If YOU don't want it, then YOU go to a non military school.

 

I think school and classes should all be voluntary. If you don't want to go to school or to a particular class, you don't have to. There should be no punishment except exclusion from class or school for dangerous behavior. Soldiering can be it's own class, like sports.

What makes you think that would be their choice? Kids hate classes when they are forced on them. This principle was implemented in the Summerhill program in Britain. No one really learns when forced, all they learn is to submit.

Anyway, no kid, or very few, would choose to go to school. Especially not young kids. I hated it when I was a boy, but I'd hate it if today I didn't know how to read and I'd be on the street.

Why not instil loyalty to the world or humanity as a whole rather than a specific and accidental country of birth?

 

Patriotism is the love of one's nation, by embracing it. It's not just the nation that you are from, but the nation that defines you. I could have been born in China, but I'd be patriotic toward Syria

 

If your parents were also born in China then you'd be patriotic to China.
Your country of birth isn't your own choice.
Why should I favour my country over any other?
Does my country always make the right decisions?
Always do the right thing?
Always treat its citizens correctly?
Doesn't the world as whole deserve my respect and love more?

 

The nation's ideology and ideals, this is what makes a part of that nation. Patriotism isn't the belief that you are superior to others, but just that you love YOUR nation AND your people and community. IT can only do good.
