In recent years, the UN has tried telling sovereign nations they can't let parents spank their kids. For example, when they tried forcing countries to criminalize spanking of children : U.N. rules Canada should ban spanking Japan, Armenia, Guyana UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Is it the UN's business to push laws like this on parents around the world ? Do you think parents spanking their children's bottoms should be outlawed ?
If a kid gets spanked I'm sure he deserved it. If the parent is just abusive I am sure that spanking is not the only thing the kid gets.
I didn't know raw tissue in the human body had preferences as to where it could be beaten without reproach. If a parent has the right to spank a child's bottom, do they also have the right to hit the child in the face or elsewhere? How hard is a parent allowed to spank? Can they use objects such as wood or leather to hit the child? Why or why not?
you should see my boys beat the hell out of each other. screw the UN. abuse is wrong. can just as badly abuse a child without ever touching them. my mom said that is why god gave us butts
Parent's right. These days, discipline is thrown out the door by the petty liberal leftists in favor of nonsense. Bring back discipline in the household.
Parents that spank should be arrested for assault. If you believe that aborting a foetus is murder, then hitting a child is assault.
It's rather far fetched comparing a simple butt-spanking to "hitting". Hitting is usually thought of as hitting someone with a closed fist to locations of the body OTHER than the buttocks.
Its entirely possible to apply physical discipline without striking a child. Handcuffs...Shackles...Gags.
Children aren't just "someone", they are easily injured. I'm all for the UN working to influence countries to change their law, but not for the UN to supercede a nation's soveriegnty, except in cases for the ICC.
Spankings are not or should not be about inflicting pain, but rather used as a device to get the child's undivided attention. It doesn't take much a good swat on the bottom gets the attention. But dicipline should not be about pain, but changing behavior. I think for the most part it is. I am sure some parents use it as an emotional release, and that is definately wrong.
Oh yeah, let's teach children that discipline results from violence instead of rigor. Please Register or Log in to view the hidden image!
"Some studies have shown that children who are spanked are more likely to be angry as adults, use spanking as a form of discipline, approve of striking a spouse and experience marital discord.[11] Spanking older children is associatd with more physical aggression, substance abuse, crime and violence." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spanking
It's kind of hard to injure a child with a spanking, a beating (which this thread isn't about) yes, but not a spanking.
